The Day
Christmas Eve saw a healthy turnout of 24 Tee Setters getting together at Pangkalan Jati for some christmas cheer and a pleasant walk around the rolling fairways to work up an appetite for the following day. Everyone made an effort to come with a Christmas themed selection of golf attire or accessories and to get the holiday spirit flowing, they were all welcomed with a cup of Bloody Mary supplied by President Roger Finnie.
No newcomers this week with Nicki and Stefan having joined the week before at Modern, but 2 notable welcome backs for Muhammad Alhamami and Pierre Tastet after an impressive 94 weeks and 65 weeks, respectively.
With the course being relatively quiet there was a collective decision to pay the slightly higher morning rate and get off earlier than the planned 12pm start so we all headed out around 11.00am. With the weather also being bright and sunny, we were able to finish in just over 4 hours. This allowed us to be off to enjoy the rest of our Christmas Eve festivities by 4.30pm after celebrating the day’s play and wishing each other compliments of the season.
A special mention to Nicki Stuart who came back the next day to play on Christmas Day and scored her first ever Hole in One. Congratulations to Nicki and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to Jakarta.
The Play
Pangkalan Jati is a tricky course and with some longer carries to the red tees we always see a healthy return of skirts. This week was no exception with over a third of eligible players returning a fine for their skirts as captured below: Andrew Abram, Andrew Shaw, Ivan Byriel, Mark Johnson, Muhammad Alhamami, Pierre Tastet and Stefan Skibinski.
No Monster Putter this week with everyone having a good day on the greens and in the spirit of Christmas, the President decided not to levy fines for Most Strokes. Mark Johnson was able to recoup his skirt fine after being awarded the prize for Most Improved. The skill prizes were awarded to Nicki Stuart for First Sandy on hole 3 and Roger Finnie for his Low Putts of 28 – albeit more a reflection of how many greens he missed rather than any particular skill on the day as his playing partners would attest. Low Gross went to Stuart Wigley for his equal best of the day score of 83.
Low Net winners on the day were Axel Hertzke in A Grade for his net 70, our only sub-handicap round of the day, Don Duttlinger in B Grade for his net 77 and Juju Juhairiah in C Grade for her net 73. Detailed results of the day are here.
Next Up Riverside 31st December 2017
This week sees us head down to Riverside for our last game of the year.
This Greg Norman designed course is always one of the most interesting challenges on the Tee Set schedule with the Shark’s trademark optical illusions regularly fooling the unwary.
This week we have invited our friends from the DOGS to join us and we will be having a fun game together playing in 2 man team pairs. We will conduct a blind draw for teams with the lower handicap half of the field drawing a partner from the higher handicap half of the field. The drawing will be conducted at 11.00 am so we can get the pairings to the starter. Late arrivals will be paired as they come.
Scoring on each hole for the team will be based on the better ball net score off individual handicaps, 3 lowest team scores will win the prizes on offer. All players (Tee Setter or DOGS) with a Tee Set handicap will play that handicap on the day and the remaining DOGS players will play off their DOGS handicap.
Come join us for the fun and challenge of one of Jakarta’s finest courses on Sunday by signing up here as usual. Green fees of Rp735,000 including a shared cart with a tee time of 11.30pm.
