Sunday 7th January 2018: Pondok Cabe

The Day

Our first outing of 2018 was to the friendly and relaxed Pondok Cabe with 19 Tee Setters getting together to wish each other Happy New Year and to enjoy a gentle stroll around the course. Always good value for money, the course was in good shape with the greens playing well and despite all the recent rain, the fairways were firm and dry.

Although the President’s caddie was twitching on a couple of occasions to get the rain cover out, we experienced only a few light drops of rain on the way round, on what was otherwise a warm and slightly overcast day. As usual for Pondok Cabe, we were round in good time despite a short hold-up on the cross over as a match-play went out in front of the first groups as they turned. As a result, we were in the club house and enjoying some well earned refreshments well before 4pm and off home after the prize ceremony not too long afterwards.

One new-comer, Matt McGowan, was welcomed on the day and we had a notable welcome back for Steven Pettis after 34 weeks away. We hope to see you both again shortly at another Tee Set outing.

A thank you to Beby who caught up on 3 weeks of handicap updates as well as managing the registrations and scoring on the day.

The Play

As usual Pondok Cabe was gentle on those playing well with 5 rounds at or under handicap but with some longer carries from the Blue to Red Tees capable of catching errant drives not hit well. 4 gentlemen were therefore caught out with Andrew Abram, Chris Till, Doug McQuarter and Steven Pettis getting the honour of our first skirts of 2018. Steven also stayed up for his photo with the monkey for his Most Strokes on a Hole of 10 shots although saved from any further fines by our 1 fine rule.

No Monster Putter today as everyone had a good day on the greens best of which as Low Putter of the day was newcomer Matt McGowan for his 27 strokes with the flat stick. Most Improved went to Laurie O’Connor for recording a 7 stroke improvement on his back 9 and Andrew Abram recovered his skirt fine by recording First Sandy for his effort on hole 2.

Richard Green benefited from the 1 prize rule to win first Birdie for his effort on hole 9 and similarly Arne Tjaden was awarded Low Gross for his 83 off the stick.

Low Net honours went to Kim Pham for her net 68 to win C grade, Umaya Till for the best net of the day 66 to win B grade and President Roger Finnie took home A grade for his net 68.
