Sunday 28th January 2018: Cengkareng

The Day

Despite a heavy thunderstorm hitting Jakarta mid-morning, a healthy 39 Tee Setters turned out on Sunday at Cengkareng for the first Monthly Medal of 2018 and the second round of Eclectic Cycle VII. As usual we were well looked after at Cengkareng and enjoyed the customary good service in the Club House whilst waiting for our  appointed tee time.

Due the aforementioned thunderstorm, there was a short delay of 15-20 minutes on both tees whilst a few groups ahead of us went out but when we got out, we largely kept moving. A good breeze ensured that we needed to think a little more about each shot but unfortunately it was not enough to stop us getting wet over the last 2 or 3 holes as the rain came back as we were close to finishing; fortunately it was not heavy enough to stop play and all players were able to complete their rounds.

We welcomed 2 new joiners this week, Tim Boothman and Francis Denhardt and an impressive welcome back after 289 weeks to Holger Guenzel.  Also shown is Audie Kaunang as we did not capture his photo last week when he joined for his first round. We look forward to welcoming you all again soon to a Tee Set Sunday.

Sunday also saw us draw the first pairings of the Tee Set Match Play competition and you can connect here to see the first match pairings, contact details of all the participants and the dates for the preliminary and subsequent rounds to be completed by: initial matches to be completed by 4th March 2018.

Thank you to Brenda for managing all the registrations and scoring on the day as well as capturing some images of the day which can be found here.

The Play

As usual, a healthy return of skirts this week and whilst not including Peter Bush who has some serious skirt trouble last week, we were able to welcome up 7 Tee Setters for the most popular photo of the day: Bill Lloyd, Brandon Curson. King Tirto, Mike Webb, Pascal Bekaert, Rudie Basson and new comer Tim Boothman. Brandon stayed on deck for his Most Strokes photo with the monkey after his 12 on a hole although avoiding further penalty due to the 1 fine rule. Similarly Tim Boothman avoided further penalties for his Monster Putter effort of 40 strokes and was joined by Audie Kaunang.

Erik Milfors and Lis Wymer shared Most Improved with 11, whilst both Mike Webb and King Tirto recovered their fines by winning First Sandy (hole 4) and First Par for Handicaps =>30, respectively.

First Birdie, always a winner on Hole 1, went to Daniel Brown and Low Gross was won by Fitrat Ameer, our Low Gross Champion, with a score of 82 on his first Tee Set outing since the Championships. Low Putts with 27 strokes was awarded to Rudie Basson.

Ryan Shepherd (74), James Ross (71) and Pascal Bekaert (79) took home Low Net Honours in A, B and C grades, respectively.

Our Monthly Medalist with an impressive 40 points in the strong winds was Wina Nugraha who will have her name immortalized on the Monthly Medal Shield as our first winner of 2018.

Congratulations to Wina and all the winners on the day and please refer to the Eclectic page of the web-site later in the week for an update on the round 2 standings. Detailed results of the day can be found here.

Next Up: Sunday 4th February Matoa Nasional

Sunday 4th February sees us return to the home of the Tee Set Championships with the relatively short trip to Matoa Nasional.

Always good value at Rp650,000 including cart and our tee time is booked for 11.30am so as the trip can sometimes be a little slow, please allow plenty of time to get there and register.

If you are interested to join please sign up here as usual.
