4th February 2018: Matoa Nasional

The Day

A very wet Saturday night and some heavy early morning rain potentially caused some doubt on playing conditions for Sunday’s return to the home of the Tee Set Championship,  Matoa Nasional. However, with Tee Set’s proud record of never missing a week-end in now (almost) 35 years, a little rain was not going to deter us turning out and 38 optimistic Tee Setters arrived in plenty of time to see the heavens open again whilst we enjoyed breakfast and completed the registrations.

Our perseverance was well rewarded as the rain abated as the first groups went out on time and we were to finish our round in bright sunshine. Whilst the course took some time to drain and therefore we played lift, clean & place, the rain did deter less hardy golfers and so we enjoyed a relatively empty course in front of us and a quick round of 4 hours for most groups.

The quick round meant we finished earlier than normal which resulted in some players deciding to get off early but most chose to sit and relax with some extra refreshments until the prize giving.

In addition to welcoming back Ian Butcher after 65 weeks and our 2 Champions from the 2017 Championships, we also gave a warm Tee Set welcome to 2 new Tee Setters, Dan Brody and Budi Wahyu. We look forward to seeing you out again with Tee Set soon.

We also caught up with some pending presentations. Firstly,  we recognized the work done behind the scenes by our Web Guy, Keith Miller, who was so busy sorting out scoring and recording drone footage on the day of the Championship that he did not get to collect his goody bag; this was presented to him by Championship Event Coordinator, VP Ric Wymer.

Secondly we were able to present to Vanco Pop-Petrovski his December 2018 Monthly Medal and capture a picture of him with the shield.

Thank you also to Brenda who managed all the registrations, scoring and reporting on the day. Photos taken on the day are all here.

The Play

We had 2 games completed in the preliminary round of the Match Play with Wina Nugraha carrying on the form which won her the Monthly Medal last week to beat Geoff Thwaites 5&4 whilst in a much tighter affair, Mark Fiorello won 1up over Amol Singhal.

Our newcomer, Dan Brody was our solitary skirt on the day giving him a full choice of the Tee Set dress up out-fit for his photo. Most Strokes went to Jens Roestel for his 12 on a hole which no doubt contributed to his Most Improved win by coming back 11 strokes less than his outward 9.

Our solitary Sandy Par on the day was achieved by the Singing President, Craig Ewers, on hole 5 whilst Chris Till won First Par for >=30 Handicap for his effort on hole 4. Ronald Lim won First Birdie which also fell on hole 4.

Tee Set Net Champion, Santi Miller, had to be content this visit to Matoa with Low Putts whilst Tee Set Gross Champion, Fitrat Ameer was Low Gross on the day with 81.

A couple of ties saw Ian Butcher and Roger Finnie win Low Net A with Nuri Puzey and Keith Miller sharing Low Net B. Best net round of the day saw Pekka Kivioja take home Low Net C with a net 69.

Detailed results of the day are here.
