The Day
Imperial is one of those courses on our rota which many Tee Setters come to enjoy playing after a few experiences and Sunday saw us heading down the Tangerang Toll for our second visit of the year after a hiatus in 2017. Perhaps reflecting that, this week saw no newcomers after a few weeks of strong new arrivals. We also had only 1 welcome back of note with Jess Kindler joining us after 78 weeks.
Our group of 26 regulars were warmly greeted by the marketing team who efficiently registered us in and with the starter ensuring the groups in front of us went out on time, we were able to start promptly at 12pm.
The weather was dry with a strong wind most of the afternoon and whilst a thunderstorm threatened, we were lucky it skirted us so our umbrellas were only out for a few minutes, mostly it seemed to keep the caddies dry. The course played relatively firm and the tricky undulations on fast greens ensured we returned some monster putters and only 3 players beating their handicaps on the day.
With the groups ahead moving at a good pace, we were finished well before 5pm and the prize giving completed before dark thus enabling most people to enjoy an extra refreshment or return home a little earlier, as preferred.
A thank you to Brenda for managing all the registrations and scoring on the day as well as taking some photos which can be found here.
The Play
With VP Ric Wymer scoring a trifecta of the booby prizes of Monster Putter, Most Strokes and a skirt we took one photo with all the accessories before capturing a second photo of Ric with our 4 other skirt winners, Craig Edwards, Jess Kindler, Lim Jongwha and Mick Dodsworth.
Richard Bolton won Most Improved for his 13 shot lower back 9 and Lim Jongwha recovered his fine with the First Sandy prize for his effort on hole 13. Tony Howarth won Low Putts for his mastery of the greens in needing only 30 putts whilst Daniel Brown and Rudie Basson shared First Birdie for their efforts on hole 3.
Craig Edwards also recovered his skirt fine in taking home Low Net B with his net 71 where he was joined by Dirk Kruip Low Net C after his net 76 and Mark Fiorello who recorded our best gross and net score of the day to take home Low Net A with an impressive net 67. Low Gross honours went to Ian Butcher for his 83 off the stick.
In the sole match-play on the day, the Singing President came back on the last hole to halve his match with Matthew Powell. With a few weeks remaining in the first knock-out round they decided to live to fight another day rather than having a play off. A reminder to everyone still in the match-play to get in touch with your opponent to schedule your matches and then to send the result into James Ross to officially record it.
Congratulations to all our winners on the day and the summary scoring can be found here.
Next Up: Jagorawi G&CC 9.30AM Sunday 15th April 2018
This year we are holding our regular Sunday events at Jagorawi on those weeks when Inter-League is being played. This Sunday we therefore take the short trip down the Jagorawi Toll for our second visit of the year to Jagorawi Golf & Country Club. JGCC is an excellent test of golf and always in great condition.
Sunday’s event is open to all Tee Set players and we will select the Inter-League team from those who have signed up to play on Sunday. JIL Tee Set Team members who have confirmed their availability are therefore requested to also sign up as usual and please bring your Green Tee Set shirt for playing in.
It is a rare morning start at 9.30am which may challenge those out late on Saturday night but there is the attraction of an early return home too. 2 added benefits for this Sunday:
(1) There is a 10% discount on F&B in the club house on JIL match days this year; and
(2) We have some discounted vouchers for green fees courtesy of Richard Mau and the team at Hotel JS Luwansa. The price for the vouchers is Rp525,000 which will be collected by Roger Finnie or Brenda on the day. Please come and find us to collect/pay in cash for the voucher before you register with the Club. When you then register you will need to pay the Club for the cart & caddy fee but overall you will save around Rp180,000 on the published rate for the day of Rp950,000. Even if you are late the Rp950,000 fee still represents a good discount from last year thanks to the efforts of the JIL Committee.
Please plan to be there and ready to play in good time as JIL will go off as a shotgun start at 9.30am with Tee Set’s regular players to follow.
If you are interested to join us please sign up here to register.
For those wishing to learn more about the Jakarta Inter-League event please read this page on our website which gives some good insight to it and contains the 2017 report of the matches. If you are interested in playing for the Tee Set team and have not already informed us, please let Roger Finnie (whatsapp +62 811 389 1350) or Ric Wymer know a.s.a.p..
