Sunday 29th April 2018: Cengkareng

 The Day

Being the last Sunday of the month, this week saw 43 Tee Setters head out to the always popular Cengkareng as we kicked off the first round of Eclectic VIII and held our April Monthly Medal.

This month, added to shank’s pony and the hover -boards was the introduction of a limited number of carts which proved very popular with those looking for a more relaxed trip across the rolling fairways.

As usual, we were warmly welcomed and took advantage of the friendly service whilst registrations and the playing four-somes were sorted out. With the weather being dry and sunny, play was moving smoothly so we were able to tee off slightly ahead of time and enjoyed a rain free round; quite the contrast to last week at PJ! The warm weather also made the course quite firm which led to many scores under handicaps on the day.

3 newcomers joined us this week and a warm Tee Set welcome was given to Gary Hing, Paul Boquest and John Stevens. We also welcomed back the Gaisler family after 26 weeks.

A big thank you to Brenda Mayland who managed all the administration on the day and photos of the day are here.

The Play

An impressive 75% of our players made the summary of play on the day for the good, the bad and the skillful play on the day. With the longer carries to the Ladies Tees, unsurprisingly the list of Skirt winners was the longest with 9 Tee Setters getting called up to share the photo: Amol Singhal Bill Lloyd, John Suermondt, Jongchun Kim, Pascal Bekaert,  Pieter Nielen-Groen, Rudie Basson, Rusty Witwer and Stefan Skibinski sharing the dress up outfits amongst themselves. Rusty on his last Tee Set round before returning to the USA made sure he got the most golf in securing Most Strokes for his 13 strokes on a hole. Completing the fines was Dede Nielen-Groen who secured the Monkey photo for her 40 putts.

Both Pascal and Bill were able to recover their fines by taking home Most Improved of 14 and First Birdie on hole number 2, respectively. Low Putts with only 27 putts on the greens was won by Tony Howarth.

First Sandy was shared by Nicki Stuart and Daniel Brown for their efforts on hole 4. New comer Gary Hing had an impressive 77 off the stick for our Low Gross on the day but having gone home early, Roger Finnie was left to pick up the prize. Low Net A and Low Net B went to Match-play opponents on the day, Mark Johnson (69) and Chris Lever (68), respectively. Completing the Low Net prizes was Dede Nielen-Groen who shot a net 77.

Our monthly medal Long Drive prizes were won by Arne Tjaden (242m) and Dede-Nielen-Groen (165m) whilst the NTP prize was taken home by Richard Bolton who knocked his short to within 80cm of the hole.

The major prize on the day and getting her name added to the list of Monthly Medal winners on the shield was Jana Gaislerova who scored 42 points on the day. As Jana had left for the airport by the time of the prize giving we will capture her photo and award her medal at a future event.

3 match-plays were completed on the day with Mark Johnson overcoming Chris Lever 2&1 and Wina Nugraha besting Mark Fiorello 4&2 in their first knock-out round matches whilst Roger Finnie pipped Daniel Brown 2up to move into the last 8 of the Match-Play Championship.

Detailed results of the day are here.

Rancamaya Tee Set vs D.O.G.S. 2nd/3rd June 2018

One of our most popular events and always an excellent week-end away, our visit to Rancamaya will be held over the week-end of 2nd/3rd June as we take advantage of the good traffic during Ramadan to head further down the Jagorawi Toll.

The event is open to all Tee Setters and for those who want to make a full week-end of it, booking your hotel room early is a must. Details about the week-end, the hotel and the rooming options are on the website  here.

Mark Johnson markstevenjohnson56@gmail.com is kindly coordinating all the room bookings so please contact him via email as soon as possible to secure your desired room type and to inform him on which dates you require the reservation for. Some popular rooms are in limited supply and will fill up fast; these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so please email Mark asap.

For those only wishing to join for the Sunday event, we will open registrations as normal 1 week before.

Next Up: Matoa Nasional 6th May 2018 11.48am

As Padang Modern has informed us they are holding a morning competition and that they have heavy bookings for the afternoon, we have decided to make a change of venue from the published schedule. Next Sunday therefore sees us return to the home of the Tee Set Championship, Matoa Nasional.

We are always well looked after by the staff at Matoa and apart from the usual risks of an afternoon shower, the day is good value as the food and beverages are reasonably priced on top of the golf being one of cheaper venues now.

Tee time is 11.48am and the price Rp650,000 with cart. Please sign up here if you are interested to join.
