The Day
With a change in the original schedule due to Modern being heavily booked, Sunday saw us head back to Matoa Nasional, home of the Tee Set Championships. Sunday traffic can be a lottery down to Matoa and so our enterprising Tee Setters found multiple forms of transport to ensure they arrived on time, including Lorenzo Marengo seen here on his Vespa, clubs and all.
The friendly staff were all decked out in their 2017 Tee Set shirts to welcome us and we enjoyed some snacks and refreshments in the café beside the practice green whilst VP Ric Wymer managed all the registrations and pairings in the absence of Brenda Mayland this week.
It was a perfect golfing day with 33 Tee Setters able to enjoy bright sunshine all day, tempered only with a nice cooling breeze to stop us getting overheated. With the great weather, the course had dry and relatively hard fairways but the greens and bunkers reflected the heavy usage and need for maintenance after the rainy season. We teed off on time to enjoy a relatively smooth round despite the course being busy ahead of us and were all completed with prize giving around 5pm. The one drawback on the day was the fact that the course had not had its usual deliveries of amber refreshments and so those looking for a drink were forced to head out elsewhere after proceedings were completed.
One newcomer, Jeff Grable, was given a warm Tee Set welcome. Jeff has a long on and off association with Indonesia and after the round he was trying to remember if he may have played with us before in the late 1990’s or early 2000’s. What was not in doubt was our 1000+ weeks of welcome backs headed by Rob Algie after an estimated 902 weeks and the equally impressive 217 weeks for Samret Raugit. We look forward to welcoming you all back sooner for your next rounds.
Many thanks to Ric for all the arrangements on the day and photos of the day can be found here.
The Play
We had one match play on the day with Matt Otto defeating Dan Javier 4 & 3 to proceed into the next round.
Matoa when it is playing hard and fast, as on Sunday, is very Tee Set friendly as can be seen by some impressive scores recorded by the players and the generally low numbers of potential fines. However, Mike Harling was caught out once to record our only skirt whilst Umaya Till had a bad day with the flatstick taking Monster Putter with 49 strokes recorded on the greens. Completing the fines were David Baglivo and Richard Green who shared the Monkey for their 10 strokes on a hole.
Long driving Matt McGowan creamed his first hole to win First Birdie whilst Michael Seabrook played his hole 3 steadily to pick up First Par >=30 handicaps. Generally everybody had a good day on the greens but their “inconsistent” condition meant only 3 players broke 30 putts with Kongkiat Chaisri recording Low Putts of 28.
VP Ric Wymer fresh off handling all the registrations and groups started off slowly but was fully focused by the back nine to come home 9 shots better and take home Most Improved. President Roger Finnie recorded Low Gross on the day for his 82 off the stick.
Low A winner Marcello de Jesus was absent at the prize giving but our 2 best rounds of the day were there to collect their winnings with Amol Singhal taking Low Net B with his impressive net 65 only to be outshone by Pekka Kivioja who recorded a best of the day net 62 to win Low Net C.
Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results can be found here.
Next Up: Jagorawi 13th May 2018 Shotgun 12.30pm
This Sunday we take the short trip down the Jagorawi Toll for our third visit of the year to Jagorawi Golf & Country Club. JGCC is an excellent test of golf and always in great condition.
Sunday’s event is open to all Tee Set players and we will select the Inter-League team from those who have signed up to play on Sunday. JIL Tee Set Team members who have confirmed their availability are therefore requested to also sign up as usual and please bring your Green Tee Set shirt for playing in.
Unlike other JIL days, we will have a “regular” 12.30pm start with the usual shotgun arrangements so there is plenty of time for those out on Saturday evening to wake up and make there way to the course. Unfortunately the vouchers have been utilized already but the pricing is still excellent value at Rp950,000 including carts.
If you are interested to join us please sign up here .
Rancamaya Tee Set vs D.O.G.S. 2nd/3rd June 2018
One of our most popular events and always an excellent week-end away, our visit to Rancamaya will be held over the week-end of 2nd/3rd June as we take advantage of the good traffic during Ramadan to head further down the Jagorawi Toll.
The event is open to all Tee Setters and for those who want to make a full week-end of it, booking your hotel room early is a must. Details about the week-end, the hotel and the rooming options are on the website here. In addition to being a good week-end away, the golf is also great value with the rate with carts confirmed at Rp660,000 for both Saturday PM and Sunday PM; thanks to John and Sarah Brown from D.O.G.S. for securing this rate.
Mark Johnson markstevenjohnson56@gmail.com is kindly coordinating all the room bookings so please contact him via email as soon as possible to secure your desired room type and to inform him on which dates you require the reservation for. Some popular rooms are in limited supply and will fill up fast; these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so please email Mark asap.
For those only wishing to join for the Sunday event, we will open registrations as normal 1 week before
