The Day
Being the last week-end of the month, Sunday saw us heading out to Cengkareng for our Monthly Medal event which also coupled as the second round in Eclectic VIII. With a few late cancellations, numbers were slightly down on the usual turnout for this popular venue but 37 Tee Setters were there to enjoy the warm hospitality and good service which the course offers.
We were blessed with a dry sunny day and with the course playing well, the opportunity for good scoring was not missed by many of the players already in good form. Some impressive scoring, more below, was tempered by the longer carries from Blue to Red which ensured that a healthy level of fines were also collected during the prize giving.
3 newcomers on the day were given a warm Tee Set welcome: John Birch, Bill Bigelow and Chad Skorupka, whilst Chuck Jeffrey (23 weeks) and Al Livingston (16 weeks) headed the welcome backs. It was a pleasure also to see some of our recent new members back and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
A big thank you to our secretary, Brenda Mayland, who managed all the registrations and scoring this week and photos of the day can be found here.
The Play
Always a good harvest of skirts at Cengkareng and this visit was no exception with 8 players being caught out. With several players leaving early we did our best to capture all of Chuck Jeffrey, John Birch, Mark Johnson, Francois Panchaud, Pieter Nielen-Groen, Ric Wymer, Richard Bolton and Richard Green.
The popular fine-prize double header was secured this week by Match Play supremo James Ross who took the Monkey for his most strokes of 10 on a hole in his front 9 and then came home 12 strokes better to win Most Improved by some margin.
Monster Putter and First Sandy winners were absent by the prize giving. 4 players birdied the 1st hole with Craig Binks and Jongchun Lim there to collect their prize at the end of the day. Master of the greens this week was Francois Panchaud who had an impressive day with the flatstick to take home Low Putts of 25 whilst Low Gross was awarded to Jeff Landau for his 79 off the stick.
Low Net A was won by the ever consistent Mark Fiorello who secured a net 70 off his equal low gross of the day 79 whilst Bill Lloyd took home Low Net B on a count-back from Craig Edwards after both recorded net 69’s. Lis Wymer completed our Low Net winners with her net 72 securing her C Grade honours.
In our monthly medal skill competitions, Simon Oxley was Nearest to the Pin to a tricky placement on Hole 17 whilst Santi Miller and Joshua Alexander were our Long Drive winners on hole 2.
With many good scores on the day the monthly medal was a close competition with Daniel Brown prevailing on a count-back from Craig Edwards after both scored 40 points. Congratulations to Daniel who joins our list of monthly medalist and gets his name inscribed on the shield.
Detailed results of the day can be found here.
Tee Set Match-Play
2 more matches were completed yesterday. Craig Edwards, who was unlucky with count-backs on Sunday, played well enough to put himself in contention for the monthly medal and also overcome Jon Pipe 4&2 to progress to the next round. For a second round in a row, Santi Miller showed steely nerves going down the last to prevail 1up against David Baglivo and also progress.
All the results communicated to us so far are posted to the match-play page on the website here and if you have played but not yet reported your results please do so to James Ross, cc Roger Finnie.
There are still 7 matches to be played in the current round so please make every effort to get these played prior to the next Monthly Medal which is the cut-off date.
Next Up: Rancamaya 2nd/3rd June 2018
Next week-end is the ever popular Tee Set versus D.O.G.S. event at Rancamaya. Saturday night is now fully booked at the hotel so there are no more spaces for those who may have been still thinking of coming down and making a week-end away unless you already made a reservation.
However, for those wishing to enjoy Rancamaya as a regular Sunday golf day, we will be very happy to see you and please sign up here as usual.
Anybody booked in for Saturday night does not need to register again unless you did your booking NOT via Mark Johnson and have not told us.
For those there on Saturday and wanting to play golf please be at the starter area by 11.30am and register with Mark Johnson who is organizing flights so we can have an orderly tee off departure. Saturday night’s BBQ will commence around 7pm and please bring your own special refreshments.
On Sunday, VP Ric Wymer and D.O.G.S. Captain Mark Johnson will arrange the teams for the match as well ensure everyone is placed into flights for the regular events of both societies. Please try and be there before 11.30am to assist them with making these arrangements smoothly.
We have some players looking for lifts so if any one has space and can offer a lift please let Ric Wymer know asap.
