The Day
Not yet the formal European summer holidays, first full week back after Lebaran or just the attractions of a round at one of the best run clubs in Jakarta? What ever the reason, an almost full field of 61 players turned out on Sunday for our June Monthly medal and Round 3 of Eclectic VIII to be welcomed by a bright sunny day and a gentle breeze making the golfing conditions ideal for a great afternoon of golf.
It appeared that the attractions which helped swell our numbers to our best turnout in 2018 also were attracting other golfers to Cengkareng this week. We were informed there was a full field ahead of us and a shortage of caddies (no doubt some still on holiday too) and carts which meant we were a little late teeing off and the final groups struggled to complete there round before darkness fell completely…. apologies to those at the back of the field but everyone seemed to have a good time regardless.
Joining us this week were a very healthy 9 newcomers and a very warm Tee Set welcome to Werner Leten, Weera Limiirakaiorn, Raymond Lee, Miller Vinson, Michael Reading, Maspiyono, James Yaworski, Glen Sutherland and Esko Jaalinoia. Welcome backs were headed by Dave Collecott after an impressive 191 weeks and Dia Meta Sari after 36 weeks. We look forward to seeing you all again shortly.
Also welcomed back was our Secretary Brenda Mayland and thank you Brenda for all the sterling work to manage all of those turning out on the day and catching up with the pending photos and admin from earlier weeks. All the photos can be found here as usual.

Although we welcomed many new faces it is a fact of Jakarta life there are a few leavers too and Sunday we took the opportunity to thank 2 of our good supporters over recent years in Pekka Kivioja and Steve Moruzzi who were playing their last rounds with Tee Set before heading to pastures new. Bon Voyage gentlemen and we look forward to welcoming you back should your paths cross Jakarta again.
Thanks also to VP Ric Wymer for again looking after the prize giving as President Roger Finnie headed off early due to other commitments – not linked to the football but which did drag a few others away early as well!
The Play
Long carries to the Red tees and tricky greens at Cengkareng always mean a healthy set of fines but given the high turnout our harvest of only 7 skirts was a lower return than some previous months. Nevertheless Axel Hertzke, David Baglivo, Detlef Blumke, Dirk Kruip, Fran Heuken, Matthew Cherrett and Rudie Basson were all invited for the skirt photo. Detlef also stayed for his Monster Putting of 47 strokes on the greens breaking the 4 way tie for second place albeit being saved from a further fine under the one fine rule. Several contenders also for Most Strokes with new comer Weera Limiirakaiorn coming out highest with his 12 strokes on a hole.
Pekka Kivioja in his last round managed to snag a final prize winning First Par for Handicaps >=30 on hole 2. Most Improved was jointly awarded to Andrew Shaw and, recovering his fine, Detlef Blumke for coming home 11 strokes better than they went out. Showing he was a little better at the business end of the hole and winning back his skirt fine was Low Putter on the day Rudie Basson, who need only 27 putts on the day.
2 Eagles again this week, this time scored by Manfred Borer and Santi Miller who were both recognized for their efforts on holes 11 and 14, respectively. First Sandy and First Birdie both went at Hole 1 with Joshua Alexander winning First Sandy and Arne Tjaden being there to collect his prize for First Birdie.
Low Gross went to Fitrat Ameer who beat new comer Glen Sutherland on a count-back after both shot rounds of 80. Low Net prizes were presented by our sponsor Ken Runyon with Efsi Hayati taking how Low Net A (70), Ronald Dimaculangan Low Net B (69) and Mick Dodsworth Low Net C (71)
On the monthly skill prizes, nearest the pin was taken by Dia Meta Sari who got the ball to an impressive 3cm from the cup whilst our long drivers of the day were Wina Nguhara and Axel Hertzke who hit and impressive 151m and 242m, respectively. Our main winner on the day, continuing his good recent form, was Amol Singhal who shot an excellent 81 gross for 42 points to take home the Monthly Medal and add his name to the roll of honour on the shield.
Congratulations to all our winners and the results of the day are here.
