Sunday 1st July 2018: Imperial Golf Klub

The Day

Another healthy turnout of Tee Setters this week with 41 players (Ed: one missing from our database for those checking….) heading west on the Tangerang Toll to take on the challenging, and occasionally querky, Imperial Golf Klub. We have had previous challenges on getting out on time at Imperial and we arrived to find our tee time pushed back to enable(!) a couple of competitions to head out in front of us; however some astute negotiations with the starter ensured we headed out on time and with little hold up as the competitions were sent out to holes elsewhere on the course since it was fortunately not busy.

With the course playing well, albeit with the green as usual fast and tricky, and the weather perfect for golf, we were to get round in very quick time. The first groups were finished and showered before 4.30pm and everyone was able to enjoy some food and refreshments whilst the scores were being processed. Certainly the Giant Burger was the meal of choice with no less than 12 counted on the tables at one point.

3 new-comers this week and a warm Tee Set welcome was given to Rosa Wina, Banphot Wongvisavakorn and Garry Dick. Only one welcome back of worthy note (for its length of time!) with Michael Bartsch joining us again after 22 weeks. Photos of Rosa and Garry are hereafter with Banphot taking a staring role in the presentations below.

With our Secretaries unavailable this week, VP Ric Wymer again showed his mastery of the tee set database and scoring program to manage all the registrations and results on the day; suitably kept refreshed by the President and Singing President. Many thanks to Ric for all his efforts and who certainly was living up to his moniker of VP of Almost Everything.:-). Fortunately, he was still able to  get out to enjoy his round thanks to everyone being on time in the morning. Our one draw back was not getting a lot of photos but those we did capture are here.

The Play

With some players taking advantage of the early finish to head out quickly, the prize giving itself was fairly short this week. Also helping was new comer Banphot Wongvisavakorn getting the trifecta of booby prizes  for his skirt, Most Strokes of 12 on a hole and Monster Putter for his 44 strokes on the greens. “Joining” Banphot  in securing a skirt on the day was VP Ric Wymer but, not to steal Banphot’s glory, Ric had a separate photo taken for the annals of Tee Set. Most Improved was Wina Nugraha whose back 9 was 8 shots better than the front.

Another week with the skill prizes of First Birdie and First Sandy being secured on hole 1 with Matt McGowan taking the latter and Andrew Waite the former. Taking out the 2 players with other prizes, we were still left with a 3 way tie for Low Putts with a count-back finally determining that President Roger Finnie would take home the prize.

After some recent near misses with D.O.G.S. and Tee Set, Glen Sutherland decided not to rely on a count-back this week and shot a fantastic 77 to be our clear winner of Low Gross. With only 1 C Grade player with a handicap on the day Mike Harling was always going to be a winner but unfortunately did not hang around for the prize giving. The battle for Low Net A and B was a much closer affair with VP Bill Lloyd securing B Grade after his net 70 and Marcelo de Jesus A Grade with his best of the day net 69.

Congratulations to all our winners on the day and the detailed results can be found here.

Tee Set Match Play

2 games in the second knock-out round were completed on Sunday with both going down the 18th hole with all the play for. In a game which saw both players hold multiple hole leads, Jens Roestel stayed steadiest at the moment of truth to sneak passed Divya Ahuja 1 up. In the other game, 18 holes were not sufficient to settle the match so Santi Miller and Laurie O’Connor went down the 1st hole again on which Santi prevailed to also win 1 up.

Congratulations to Santi and Jens who join Roger Finnie and Geoff Thwaites in the bracket semi-finals.  This just leaves 4 matches to be completed in this round and reminder to the 8 players involved that the round must be completed by 29th July.

Next Up: BSD Sunday 8th July 2018 @ 12.30pm
