The Day: All’s well that ends well!
Forewarned of a morning competition being held at the course and having had no response from the marketing team during the week before on our enquiries to confirm the booking details, your Committee arrived to BSD with the expectation that some negotiations on starting arrangements would be needed…. and so it was to prove with 152 morning players still playing some 6 1/2 hours after tee off and our 12.30pm tee time being pushed back by the quarter hour the closer we came to the allotted time on the starters sheet!
Nevertheless, whilst most of our 38 Tee Setters occupied themselves practicing at the range and putting areas or were enjoying a chat and refreshments in the downstairs rooms, President Roger Finnie and VP Ric Wymer were busy negotiating arrangements for the 1.15pm start we were to have eventually to ensure there was the possibility of finishing before dark. The final outcome was to prove a great compromise with the 10 Tee Set groups sent out on a full shot gun on the front 9 and the rest of the PM bookings sent out from hole 13 onwards to leave us room to make the turn and not get held up. With effectively an empty course ahead of us, bright sunshine and a gentle breeze to play in, we enjoyed millionaires golf with several good rounds being turned in and the first groups finished in well under 4 hours.
We had 4 newcomers to welcome on the day and a warm Tee Set welcome was given to Eric Mary, Nithapong Senavongse, Cecilia and Giancarlo Roggiolani. We hope you enjoyed your day and look forward to seeing you back soon.
To enjoy our socialization in a different environment, for the post round presentations we decamped from BSD to Casa Dela Mexicana, a new restaurant run by the family of Tee Setter Axel Hertzke. With 29 of the group being able to join (apologies to a couple of players who tried to come but ended up MIA due to the quality of the directions), it made for a fun evening with a lot of laughter and stories of the day being shared whilst the excellent food was washed down by the margaritas and other refreshments on offer.
A big thank you to Nila, Sahara and Axel for hosting us and we look forward to coming back again following another round in the area. With several players leaving well after 8pm there were plenty of interesting photos, some of which are shared here.
A final thank you on the day to Brenda Mayland who caught up with a lot of handicap inputs in addition to the usual registrations and scoring.
The Play
With the later start and the concerns on finishing, a local rule for the day was introduced setting the maximum score at double-par which allowed some to pick up as needed and keep the groups moving. As a result, we did not award Monster Putter or Most Strokes on the day and, with there being no skirts either, our treasurer was left empty handed on the booby fines front. On the flip side, with us playing off the white tees in perfect golfing conditions, the better players on the day made hay with some excellent scoring being recorded both net and gross.
First Birdie on the day was all sewn up on hole 1 with no less than 4 people birding their first hole, the prize being shared Arne Tjaden, Gary Mond and Rob Cheng. Most Improved went to John Birch who recorded 8 strokes less coming home and 1st Sandy was awarded to Glen Sutherland who was playing his last round on his current 3 week visit – we look forwarded to seeing you on your next trip to Jakarta.
Low Putts went to Kongkiat Chaisri for his excellent mastery of the greens in taking 28 putts in his round. Mark Fiorello had the round of the day with a Gross 73 but with him taking Low Net A, a 4-way tie breaker was needed for Low Gross with Roger Finnie eventually being taking home the prize over Axel Hertzke, Len Ogembo and Joshua Alexander.
Joining Mark after his net 64 as Low Net winners were Chris Lever for Low Net B (69) and Mel Cantarella for Low Net C (73).
Congratulations to all the winners and detailed results can be found here.
Next Up: Kedaton 15th July 2018 11.ooam
Next Sunday sees us visit another of those courses which Tee Set tends to go to only once a year, Kedaton Golf & Country Club – our last visit being in March 2017, some 16 months ago.
Although a little further down the Tangerang -Merak Toll road at KM 31, it is set amongst a nice development and is usually in great condition.
Some wide fairways to allow you to open your arms with the driver but there are also plenty of canals down the side of many holes to catch errant drives; adding up to us seeing that a net score around Par will usually put you in contention based on past results.
Kedaton is also one of the few courses which allow you to choose whether to walk or take a buggy. Thanks to Wina Nugraha, our fixture Secretary, we have secured excellent rates which are also lower than last year – Rp700,000 for those walking and Rp850,000 for those in a cart.
Given the slightly extra distance, we also have an earlier start at 11.00AM so we can be finished and off home in good time. Sign up here to join to fun this week and then read on.
***** IMPORTANT WARNING AND ADVICE *****
The one tricky thing about getting to Kedaton however is making sure that you take the correct turn off from the Merak Tol heading West, with the bleached bones of those who miss it generally only found several days after their mistake.
So take the far left toll booth, and ONLY the far left toll booth at Km 31, otherwise you WILL NOT be able to get across the toll to Kedaton but instead will be doomed to wander the Western Badlands for eternity.
If you are taxi-ing then keep a close eye on your driver and guide him as necessary. They are likely not to know this detail and are best served by you paying for the additional 20km to the next U-turn and back 😦

The DeLa Mexacana was a real success. Quite often the simple events bring the most enjoyment. Well done with the write up.
