The Day
World Cup final day, late night watching 3rd/4th, Wimbledon finals, Scottish Open or just the middle of the school summer holidays … so many things on this Sunday which coupled with a few late cancellations saw a select group of 23 Tee Setters head out to Kedaton for our once a year pilgrimage to the western reaches of Sunday Tee Set golf.
Nevertheless, a bright sunny day and cooler early morning breezes welcomed all of those who read the 11.00am start time with a couple of later arrivals chasing the rest of the field around the course to make sure we all finished in relatively close timing to each other. The course was in good condition and with the greens being slightly slower than normal, the major danger most faced were some good carries to the Red tees and the canals awaiting the errant drives.
Only 1 newcomer to welcome this week, Kane Griffen, to whom a warm Tee Set welcome was imparted. We also welcomed back Shaun Dickson, Douglas McQuater and Dede Nielen-Groen after 52, 19 and 11 weeks, respectively. We look forward to seeing you all out again soon.
With the President out due to a family commitment, VP Ric Wymer took the reins again to organize the day along with Secretary Brenda Mayland. Many thanks to Ric and Brenda and the photos of the day are here.
The Play
With only 23 players and us harvesting 6 skirts, it was not surprising to see several fines and prizes going to the same person although a few of the prize winners had departed early, no doubt heading home to catch the aforementioned sporting feast on offer later in day.
6 skirts were recorded on the day with Craig Binks, David O’Shea, John Suermondt, Kane Griffen, Shaun Dickson and Tom Grace all sharing the Tee Set dress up outfit. No Monster Putter with everyone getting round in under 40 putts but with 11 strokes on a hole, Dede Nielen-Groen was awarded the Monkey.
With Craig Binks securing Low Putts and winning recovering his fine on a count-back after his 30 putts, Cucu Chandra secured Most Improved with a back nine 5 better than the outward effort. 1st Sandy went to Amol Singhal for his effort on hole 2 whilst first Birdie went to David O’Shea who made sure of the prize on Hole 1 and also recovered his fine.
Shaun Dickson recovered from his skirt to shoot an excellent 78 and take home Low Gross whilst both Tom Grace and Dede Nielen-Groen also overcame their earlier difficulties to secure Low Net B (66) and Low Net C (76), respectively. Taking Low Net A but absent at photo time was Ian Butcher after a net 67.
Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results from the day are here.
Next Up: Pangkalan Jati 22nd July 2018

Next Sunday sees us with a split event week-end as around 20 Tee Setters and families head to Surabaya to take the Finna Challenge as well as to catch up with Finna GM and Tee Setter, Simon Reynolds. For those looking for the regular Tee Set outing in Jakarta, we move from the western reaches of our schedule to our former home course, Pangkalan Jati.
We are not aware that the course has upgraded the booking system so there will always be the last minute registration before play to secure the Sunday PM price from 12pm. With this slight complication, please do not be late to register on the day & get ready before 12pm so we can pay and play once the clock reaches mid-day.
For those still to play their match-play this round, please note there are just 2 Sunday’s left to get the game in before the end of the schedule.
Price is Rp660,000 walking and a shared cart is Rp230,00 per cart. Please join us at PJ by signing up here.

(2) 4th Annual Asian Tigers 45 Hole Challenge

Hosted and organized by Tee Set VP, Bill Lloyd, and our good sponsor, Asian Tigers Mobility, this unique golfing event on the Jakarta calendar is not to be missed.
In addition to being just a great day out, it is also held for the worthy cause of supporting the protection of Sumatran Tigers through the work of the Animal Sanctuary Trust Indonesia, https://www.simplygiving.com/NonProfit/animalsanctuarytrustindonesia. ASTI’s mission, in part, to care for and rehabilitate the endangered Sumatran Tiger.
As you may guess from the name, the event is held over the 45 holes of Jagorawi Golf & Country Club with the emphasis on a golfing iron-man challenge to walk and play all 3 courses in a day. Carts are available for those who decide to relax during the day but with a penalty applied per 9 holes for their use.
Your score will be counted as the best four 9 hole scores with the Best Net and Best Gross 36 hole scores getting to take home the finest trophy in Jakarta, here modeled by President Roger Finnie who won Best Net last year.
The date has been set for 24th August 2018 and if you are interested in supporting this event as a sponsor please contact Ken Runyon on accelgolf@gmail.com.
Registrations are open and your can download the registration form here. If you have any questions on the event please contact Bill Lloyd on bill.lloyd@asiantigers-indonesia.com.
