Sunday 5th August 2018: Emeralda

The Day

Although we are still in the school and European holiday season, a chance for a second bite at Emeralda was enticing enough to draw a healthy turnout of 36 Tee Setters a short way down the Jagorawi Tol on Sunday.

With the weather remaining dry and sunny, the day promised much and we all arrived for our earlier than normal tee time in high expectations. With a competition on the in morning we were ready for a little disruption but the higher than expected turnout for that led to us needing to rearrange starting arrangements and also facing some difficulties getting bags and carts to the course in good order. Whilst we all got out and round in good time thanks to Rina’s intervention, we did end up with two 2 balls playing amongst a series of 3 and 4 balls!

Unusually, there was the recognition of this by the course and our published rate of Rp950k was reduced to Rp805k so we had a few shillings extra to enjoy some refreshments in the clubhouse afterwards to put the world to rights. Whether it was the extra beers or otherwise, we did seem to have a camera or camera operator malfunction so apologies but there are no photos of the prize giving onwards…. to be looked into before next week.

One welcome to a newcomer on the day, Butch San Agustin and notable welcome backs to Moritz, Brandon Carson, Jonathan Quek and Eric Flores. We look forward to seeing you all out again soon.

Again with our regular Secretarial team unavailable, VP Ric Wymer was the key organizer of registrations and scoring so a big thank you to him for ensuring we captured the results on the day as well as keeping everything else on track.

The Play

Round of the day went to Simon Oxley who had his best ever score of gross 77 to take home Low Net A with a net 66. An equally impressive net 64 by Dan Javier saw him take home Low Net B honours whilst a modest net 69 saw Jonathan Quek win Low Net C.

Low Gross went to Jeff Landau for his 81 off the stick. Skill honours went to Divya Prakash Ahuja for Low Putts of 28, Amol Singhal for First Birdie on hole 5 and President Roger Finnie for First Sandy at his opening hole.

12 was the key scoring number of the day, Dirk Kruip racking up that number of strokes on a hole to take the Monkey whilst Kane Griffen improved by that number between the front and back nines to take home Most Improved. A 3 way tie for Monster Putter between Brandon Curson, Ric Wymer and Wahyu Budi saw the treasurer go home happiest whilst our 1 photo of the prize giving did capture our skirts: Tom Grace, Wahyu Budi and Richard Green; Al Livingston having to already depart.

Congratulations to all our winners and the detailed results are here.

Next Up: Matoa –  11am registrations 12pm Shotgun

Tee Set 35th Birthday Scramble Event

Come join in all the fun as Tee Set celebrates its 35th Anniversary with its traditional Birthday Scramble.

An opportunity to form your own scramble teams or just come along and we will allocate the singles and lonely hearts to teams. Either way there is a lot to enjoy as hot dogs, smoothies, beer, a commemorative gift and the traditional cake will all be there to help you remain refreshed as you take on the other teams in what is always a good day out.

Many thanks to Anker & San Miguel, Hot Head, Asia Serve, Hotel JS Luwansa, Kojo and Asian Tigers for stepping up to support the day.

Registration for players at 11am please so we can be ready for our shot gun start around 12pm. Price will be Rp750,000: Rp600,000 payable to the course and Rp150,000 payable to Tee Set. At the end of the day we will be making our usual donation in support of HOGS Clef Lip charity and opening it up for any additional donations/pledges to be made – last year over Rp20j was donated or pledged on the day which was very well appreciated by the charity.

Details on the novelty holes and rules will be sent out to the registered participants on Saturday morning.

Many have signed up already and the list of sign ups as of this morning is here – no need to sign up again if your name is here. For everyone else, if you can join us please sign up:

After the golf your evening does not need to stop there as our very own Singing President Craig Ewers will be debuting his new band, Jaya Blues, at the Jaya Pub from 9pm. Please come down afterwards to support Craig and his band and finish off the day in great style.

2 Other golfing Events for your calendar…

(1) Scotland versus England Golf Match 25th August 2018

(2) 4th Annual Asian Tigers 45 Hole Challenge

Hosted and organized by Tee Set VP, Bill Lloyd, and our good sponsor, Asian Tigers Mobility, this unique golfing event on the Jakarta calendar is not to be missed.

In addition to being just a great day out, it is also held for the worthy cause of supporting the protection of Sumatran Tigers through the work of the Animal Sanctuary Trust Indonesia,  https://www.simplygiving.com/NonProfit/animalsanctuarytrustindonesia.  ASTI’s mission, in part, to care for and rehabilitate the endangered Sumatran Tiger.

As you may guess from the name, the event is held over the 45 holes of Jagorawi Golf & Country Club with the emphasis on a golfing iron-man challenge to walk and play all 3 courses in a day. Carts are available for those who decide to relax during the day but with a penalty applied per 9 holes for their use.

Your score will be counted as the best four 9 hole scores  with the Best Net and Best Gross 36 hole scores getting to take home the finest trophy in Jakarta, here modeled by President Roger Finnie who won Best Net last year.

The date has been set for 24th August 2018 and if you are interested in supporting this event as a sponsor please contact Ken Runyon on accelgolf@gmail.com.

Registrations are open and your can download the registration form here. If you have any questions on the event please contact Bill Lloyd on  bill.lloyd@asiantigers-indonesia.com.
