Sunday 21st October 2018 Gading Raya

The Day

Sunday saw us make a welcome return visit to Gading Raya after 75 weeks and the high turnout of 50 Tee Setters showed it was a popular arrangement. Whilst the greens were showing the effects of being recently cored, the rest of the day ran relatively smoothly and we all enjoyed what is a well laid out course and the hospitality of a Gading Raya team keen to ensure we enjoyed our day. Our only real hiccup was the lead groups being a little quick on the front 9 and arriving at hole 10 before the last of the afternoon groups had teed off.

The day also saw us welcome back 3 Tee Setters who have not played since prior to the database being started as well as welcome 4 newcomers to the Group. A warm Tee Set welcome was given to Shep Owen, Michael Mueller, James Stuart and James Taylor. We also had the pleasure to welcome back Ken Ridle after about 20 years and Jean & Martin Zachery after about 7 years; also welcomed back were Tony Blackburn and Vanco Pop-Petrovski and 43 and 42 weeks. We look forward to seeing you all back soon.

Many thanks to VP Ric Wymer and Secretary Beby for handling the registrations and scoring on the day. Photos of the day are here

The Play

With the red tee carries not being far we had only 1 skirt on the day by Shep Owen. With Shep having already departed, we called up Jean Zachery to model the skirt that she had made for Tee Set many years previously. Brandon Curson was both our Monster Putter after 43 putts and Most Strokes winner, the latter shared with Vanco-Pop Petrovski on 10 strokes. With neither being present, VP Bill Lloyd stepped up to ensure the monkey was modeled for our records on the day. Brandon also got his money back for First Par >=30 on hole 7.

Most Improved with 12 was Stefan Thiele who staged a good recovery after a tough from nine. Low Putts was won by Simon Oxley after mastering the greens with 27 putts whilst First Sandy was a 3 way tie between Al Livingston, Craig Binks and David Baglivo after they all secure a par on their first hole from the bunker.

Low Gross with 78 was won by Jeff Landau whilst we had a trio of great net scores for our Low Net winners by Richard Mau (A grade 67), Dan Javier on a count back from Mike Webb (B Grade 66) and John Suermondt with our best net on the day (C Grade, 64).

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here.

Next Up: 28th October 2018 Cengkareng 12pm Rp800,000 Monthly Medal and Eclectic Cycle IX Round 2

Being the last week-end of the month, this Sunday we head back to one of Jakarta’s finest courses and one of Tee Set’s most popular venues, Cengkareng, home for Tee Set’s 2018’s Monthly Medal.

Thanks to the sponsorship of Ken Runyon and his teams at Accel Golf and Golf & Special Events Management we will recognizing the Low Gross and Low A, B & C winners with a trophy in addition to presentation of the Monthly Medal to the overall winner.

This week will also be the second  round of Cycle IX of the Tee Set Eclectic and an opportunity for you to down a first marker in the hope to wrestle the trophy from current holder, Amol Singhal.

Whilst there is a lot to attract players for this week, we also welcome those who just wish to enjoy a pleasant trip across the rolling fairways, guided round by Cengkareng’s well trained caddies and then to sit and enjoy one of its famous Margaritas to cool you down afterwards.

If you are able to join us for a very reasonable Rp800,000 walking please sign up here. Tee time is 12pm as usual.

News Flash: For those who would prefer not to walk, in addition to the hover boards to glide across the rolling fairways, Cengkareng management have recently purchased 8 golf carts. These are priced at Rp55ok a cart so if you wish to reserve one please contact the Golf reservations staff at Cengakreng directly. As the carts are limited in number and we do not have visibility to those already booked on the day, your Tee Set Committee is not involved to the reservation of the carts.
