The Day
With the ever popular and well oiled Star Deli tournament taking place the day before, it was a pleasure to see a healthy turnout of 38 Tee Setters as we made our last visit of the year to Imperial. The opportunity to welcome back old friends, the match-play final and just enjoying the good food and service in the clubhouse provided plenty of reasons for us all to have a good day.
Although we have entered the rainy season and some recent games have been affected by heavy showers, we were to enjoy a relatively dry round with just the threat of a serious storm passing over us and a sprinkling of rain falling to keep us refreshed and cool as we went round. As such we were finished in good time to enjoy our post round camaraderie and make our presentations as the evening sky was being lit up by the lightning storm in the background.
Plenty of welcome backs this week with Mike Taylor (205 weeks) and Harry Hill (186 weeks) definitely the pick of the bunch. However we also gave a warm welcome back to Hal Loevy, Aljosja Van Dorssen, Chuck Jeffrey and Ronald Hioka.
Many thanks to our Secretary Beby for coming out to help with registrations and scoring and to VP Ric Wymer for making sure everything ran smoothly as usual.
The Play
Not the same great harvest of skirts as last week but we none the less welcomed up a few regulars for the picture with Pascal Bekaert, King Tirto and John Suermondt being joined by match play finalist Jens Roestel. John stayed up for Most Strokes which was also a 4-way affair, this time joined by Hakim Moui, Matthew Powell and Mike Taylor. Despite the slightly tricky greens, there was no Monster Putter this week.
King was however able to recover his fine with First Par for Handicaps =>30 whilst Andy Vincent was Most Improved with 9. First Sandy went to Ronald Hioka (hole 1) whilst First Birdie went to playing partner Richard Mau (hole 2).
Master of the greens this week was Mark Fiorello after his 28 putts whilst for a second time this year, Matthew Powell secured an eagle and recovered his fine with First Eagle (11). Round of the day went to Ken Runyon for a great 76 gross.
Our Low Net winners were Ronald Lim in A Grade (67), Aljosja Van Dorssen in B Grade (72) and Mike Taylor in C Grade (75). Thanks also to Mike for his donation to the Championship spirits stocks and congratulations to all our winners.
Detailed results are here.
Tee Set Match-Play Final
Congratulations to Jens Roestel who won the Ric Wymer Tee Set Match-Play trophy after persevering in a close and evenly matched final against Tee Set’s reigning champion, Santi Miller, at Imperial.
There have been some close matches this year and the final was no different. Santi and Jens could not be separated after 18 holes and down the last they went again with Jens securing the 19th hole to win 1 up.
Jens was presented with the trophy by its namesake, VP Ric Wymer, but held it only briefly as it was taken away for engraving ahead of its formal presentation in the Championships.
