Sunday 9th December 2018 BSD

The Day

A busy week-end for several of us who were at the Pricilla Hall event on Friday and the St Andrew’s versus St George’s event on Saturday came to close as we enjoyed the week-end’s golfing dessert with a visit to BSD. An excellent course duly attracted another good turnout of 35 Tee Setters and despite being forewarned of a morning competition we got an early start on an almost empty course thus allowing us to speed round with the first groups in before 4pm. Capping off our good fortune was the weather remaining dry although there were a few claps of thunder to remind us that it can be fickle at this time of year and that we should not dawdle!.

2 newcomers were welcomed on Sunday and a warm Tee Set welcome to Indar Dhaliwal and Chris Puype. One notable welcome back to Robert Sweigart after 118 weeks. We hope you will all join us again soon.

All in all, a great visit to BSD which we capped off with a return to De La Mexicana where we continued our evening until well after 8.30pm. A thank you to Jens who helped with the registrations, the Hertzke family for hosting us again in the evening and to Ric & Shawn who manfully managed the scoring entries whilst the rest of us were enjoying a few refreshments and the excellent food. Pictures of the day can be found here.

The Play

BSD was in excellent condition with the greens relatively faster than we have played on recently and this was reflected in the scores returned on the day. An excellent 80 off the stick saw Mark Fiorello take Low Gross on a count-back from President Roger Finnie who won Low Net A with the best net of the day 70. Low Net B was won by Eric Mary (72) and Low Net C by Riahana Ariestya (71). Low Putts was awarded to Nick Gleeson for his excellent return of 27 putts on some tricky pins.

First Birdie (hole 5) went to Matthew Powell whilst First Sandy (3) went to Shawn Berg. Most Improved was Simon Oxley with 9 whilst Lina Bunter was in the winners circle again with First Par for handicaps >=30 also secured on hole 3.

The tricky nature of BSD was reflected in our booby prizes with Monster Putter being awarded to Aurelie Neufkens after her 45 strokes on the rolling greens. a surprisingly low 3 skirts, Detlef Bluemke, Hakim Moui and Michael Mueller, was more than offset with an 8-way tie for Most Strokes of 10: Detlef being joined by Aurelie, newcomer Indar Dhaliwal, Jens Roestel, Jochen Overberg, Kim Pham, Matt McGowan and Rudie Basson.

Detailed results are here and congratulations to all our winners.

Xmas Charity Drive: Lombok and Palu

Whilst the initial news has passed and many valuable contributions have been made to support the main relief efforts, news from families of Tee Setters with direct connections to these 2 locations report that there are many people who have lost all of their belongings and are therefore short of some basic necessities including clothing.

Therefore, under the initiative of Santi Miller, we would like to ask you to go through your wardrobes and find any serviceable old clothes and bedding which you would be happy to donate. Be conscious of what would be practical given the environment – no high heels for example – but otherwise all donations are welcome. We are asking for both adult and children’s clothing plus bedding but not food, toys etc…

Donations can be brought the Tee Set events to be held over the first 3 weeks of December (BSD, Cengkareng & Riverside) and passed to Santi or Roger Finnie. If you wish to donate but cannot make these events then please contact Roger, Santi or Keith Miller and we will give you an address where they can be sent to be added to those collected on each of the next 3 Sundays.

Santi and Jane will be going through all the donations and creating shipments to be donated to families in both Lombok and Palu for the New Year. Thank you in advance for all your donations to support these worthy efforts.

Next Up: Monthly Medal & Eclectic IX 12pm at Cengkareng Sunday 16th December 2018 Rp800k

As usual our December monthly medal is a little earlier in the month due to the holiday season so this Sunday we head back to one of Jakarta’s finest courses and one of Tee Set’s most popular venues, Cengkareng, home for Tee Set’s 2018’s Monthly Medal.

It’s the last opportunity to get your name on the current shield which will be full after this month’s event; but fear not, Kojo and Geoff Thwaites have already confirmed their continued sponsorship of the Monthly Medal Shield and a new one will be purchased to engrave with the winners from next month onwards. Thanks Geoff!

Thanks to the sponsorship of Ken Runyon and his teams at Accel Golf and Golf & Special Events Management we will recognizing the Low Gross and Low A, B & C winners with a trophy in addition to presentation of the Monthly Medal to the overall winner.

This week will also be the second  round of Cycle IX of the Tee Set Eclectic and an opportunity for you to down a first marker in the hope to wrestle the trophy from current holder, Amol Singhal.

Whilst there is a lot to attract players for this week, we also welcome those who just wish to enjoy a pleasant trip across the rolling fairways, guided round by Cengkareng’s well trained caddies and then to sit and enjoy one of its famous Margaritas to cool you down afterwards.

If you are able to join us for a very reasonable Rp800,000 walking please sign up here. Tee time is 12pm as usual.

Reminder: For those who would prefer not to walk, in addition to the hover boards to glide across the rolling fairways, Cengkareng management have recently purchased 8 golf carts. These are priced at Rp55ok a cart so if you wish to reserve one please contact the Golf reservations staff at Cengakreng directly. As the carts are limited in number and we do not have visibility to those already booked on the day, your Tee Set Committee is not involved to the reservation of the carts.
