The Day
Our final monthly medal of 2018, and the last one before the current shield is retired, saw a strong turnout of 42 Tee Setters heading to Cengkareng for another excellent afternoon of golf and to enjoy the great service and hospitality that the course offers.
Although a dry, bright sunny day, the tail effects of the tropical cyclone hitting northern Australia saw us tackle the course in a very strong wind which saw some holes become quite a different experience than we have had in our previous visits. Adaptable as Tee Setters are, many relished the challenge of the conditions and in the end the results were remarkably similar to other months at Cengkareng.
4 newcomers this week with Sang Young Park, Chris Chipman, Graham Parsonage and Andrew Macking all being given a warm Tee Set welcome. Only one notable welcome back with Gary Hing joining us after 6 months. We hope to see you all again soon.
Thank you to Craig Edwards for handling the early registrations and pairings and to Ric & Lis Wymer for managing the scoring and results after the round. Details of the results are below and the photos of the day here.
The Play
A 25% hit rate saw a bumper photo of 10 skirt winners with Chris Chipman, Craig Ewers, Detlef Bluemke, Eric Mary, Ian Butcher, Matt McGowan, Mick Dodsworth, Rod Ritson, Stefan Thiele and Tim Henssen all in the frame. Several were to return as winners later in the prize presentation although Rod and Chris were to remain for a second booby prize photo after securing Most Strokes (13) and Monster Putter (46), respectively.
First to recover their fine was Mick Dodsworth who was joined by VP Ric Wymer and Cucu Chandra in sharing Most Improved with 8. Tim Henssen also recovered his fine with First Sandy on hole 11 whilst Ronald Lim took First Birdie for his effort on hole 3. Completing the weekly skill prizes was Fernando Gaggino for his Low Putts return of 28 strokes.
Monthly skills prizes saw both Eric Mary (Long Drive Men) and Stefan Thiele (NTP) also back in the black whilst Rosie Putri took home Long Drive Ladies.
Our Low Net winners were Richie Tiblani (A Grade net 67), Ronald Dimaculangan (B Grade net 73 after a count-back from Rosie) and Riahana Ariestya (C Grade net 69).
Continuing his good form, President Roger Finnie was our Low Net on the day after his 78 gross whilst our Monthly Medalist after a fine net 66 and a return of 42 points was Matt McGowan.
Congratulations to all our winners and the detailed results are here.
Xmas Charity Drive: Lombok and Palu
Thank you to all those who have generously emptied their wardrobes of old clothes so far. We are still collecting donations this week so if you have anything to donate please bring along to Riverside this week or contact Santi Miller or Roger Finnie to coordinate collection/deliveries.
Santi and Jane will be going through all the donations and creating shipments to be donated to families in both Lombok and Palu for the New Year. Thank you in advance for all your donations to support these worthy efforts.
Next up: Riverside Sunday 23rd December 2018 11.30am
Our penultimate round in 2018 sees us head down to Riverside and claim the rain check from our last visit when we got severely washed off the course.
This Greg Norman designed course is always one of the most interesting challenges on the Tee Set schedule with the Shark’s trademark optical illusions regularly fooling the unwary.
This week we have invited our friends from the DOGS & POCKSIA to join us and we will be having a fun game together playing in 2-person team pairs. We will conduct a blind draw for teams with the lower handicap half of the field drawing a partner from the higher handicap half of the field. The drawing will be conducted at 11.00 am so we can get the pairings to the starter. Late arrivals will be paired as they come.
Scoring on each hole for the team will be based on the better ball net score off individual handicaps, 3 lowest team scores will win the prizes on offer. All players (Tee Setter, DOGS or POCKSIA) with a current Tee Set handicap will play that handicap on the day and the remaining players will play off their DOGS/POCKSIA handicap.
Come join us for the fun and challenge of one of Jakarta’s finest courses on Sunday by signing up here as usual. Green fees of Rp525,000 including a shared cart with a tee time of 11.30pm
For those Tee Setters who are already travelling or who are busy the next couple of weeks, on behalf of the Committee we wish you and your families a joyous festive season and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you out on the fairways in 2019.
