Sunday 20th January 2019 Imperial Klub Golf

The Day

An overcast and windy day greeted the 28 Tee Setters who headed west to Imperial this week and in addition to concerns on the potential for a stormy interruption to our round, many players arriving noted the large group heading out ahead of us with the potential for a slow round. In the end, we headed out at 12pm as planned with the round proceeding smoothly and the weather also held off so there were no interruptions for rain or storms. All in all, thanks to the smooth organization of the Imperial team and the efforts of the marshals, we finished in good time and were able to enjoy a few refreshments in the club-house whilst a glorious sunset came across the 18th green.

One newcomer this week, Andy Doran who joined us as he was passing through to Tokyo and a welcome back after 99 weeks to Des Wright. We hope to see you both again sooner rather than later.

Thank you to Beby for doing the scoring and VP Ric Wymer for the presentations. Photos of the day are here.

The Play

Imperial is a lay-out which rewards good play but can also catch-out the unwary with several tricky holes and steep banks in front of many greens. Our long list of competitors for Most Strokes, 1/3 of the field, attests to this with Matt McGowan heading the pack after a 15 on a hole. Almost enough to secure him Most Improved but James Ross was to take this prize with a back nine 15 strokes better than his outward half. We all made the most of good greens so no Monster Putter this week, but a healthy list of skirts made sure the Treasurer was happy on the day; thank you to Arne Tjaden, Eric Mary, Geoff Thwaites, King Tirto and Pascal Bekaert for their contributions.

Missing his fine for Most Strokes also meant Matt missed out on his First Birdie prize. Low Putts went to Leon Bivolaru who chipped in twice to record only 26 strokes on the greens. Arne Tjaden recovered his fine with First Sandy on hole 5 as did Pascal Bekaert for his First Par for handicaps >=30 for his effort also on hole 5.

Low Gross went to President Roger Finnie for another consistent round of 80 whilst Low Net went to Len Ogembo (A grade 71), Andrew Waite (B grade 72) and King Tirto (C grade 74).

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here.

Tee Set Match-Play 2019: Last Call

The 2019 Tee Set Match Play Championship is now open for registrations and sign ups close this Sunday.  Games will start the first week of February so we will hold a drawing for the placement round at the monthly medal this Sunday, 27 January 2019.

Please submit your details on the form here to join the competition to try to wrest the Ric Wymer Cup from current Champion, Jens Roestel.

Next up: Monthly Medal Cengkareng 27th January 2019 & Eclectic IX Round 3

This Sunday we head back to one of Jakarta’s finest courses and one of Tee Set’s most popular venues, Cengkareng, home for Tee Set’s Monthly Medal for 2019.

Our current shield was filled at the last Monthly Medal of 2018 and a new one is being acquired thanks to the continuing sponsorship of Kojo and Geoff Thwaites. Thanks Geoff!.

This week will also be the third  round of Cycle IX of the Tee Set Eclectic and an opportunity for you to down a first marker in the hope to wrestle the trophy from current holder, Amol Singhal.

Whilst there is a lot to attract players for this week, we also welcome those who just wish to enjoy a pleasant trip across the rolling fairways, guided round by Cengkareng’s well trained caddies and then to sit and enjoy one of its famous Margaritas to cool you down afterwards.

If you are able to join us for a very reasonable Rp850,000 walking please sign up here. Tee time is 12pm as usual.

Reminder: For those who would prefer not to walk, in addition to the hover boards to glide across the rolling fairways, Cengkareng management have recently purchased 8 golf carts. These are priced at Rp55ok a cart so if you wish to reserve one please contact the Golf reservations staff at Cengakreng directly. As the carts are limited in number and we do not have visibility to those already booked on the day, your Tee Set Committee is not involved to the reservation of the carts.
