Sunday 27th January 2019: Cengkareng Monthly Medal

The Day

The high risk of rain under the overcast skies was not enough to deter us from heading to golf on Sunday with an impressive turnout of 57 Tee Setters arriving at Cengkareng for our first monthly medal of 2019.

As usual we were well looked after by the Cengkareng team in the clubhouse before and after play and our round headed off pretty much on schedule despite the course being busy. Some drops of rain as we started saw many get their wet- weather gear out on the 1st tee box, but we were not to see any rain through-out the round despite the threatening clouds. With the winds being up and the course being wet following the week’s rain, play was a little slow in some parts but we were all finished in good time to enjoy the evening in the clubhouse as we performed the prize giving and match play drawing.

5 newcomers were given a warm Tee Set welcome with Matt Kelly, John Bridgwood, Jacopo Rigamonti, Ha Tae Gil and Elliot Hawkins all joining us for the first time. A welcome back to a weekly event after 198 weeks to Jasper Bouman and after 69 weeks to Max Strawhorn. We hope to see you all out again soon.

Many thanks to Craig Edwards for helping with the morning registrations and to Beby for managing all the scoring on Sunday and the photos of the day are here.

The Play

Despite the wet conditions, several players turned in some excellent scores but as usual Cengkareng can catch the errant golf shots and punish your scores. Hakim Moui headed the list of Most Strokes with his 12 on a hole to get his photo taken with the Monkey whilst Matt Kelly was awarded Monster Putter for his 40 strokes on the greens. As usual a long list of skirts with Arthur Mallari, Dan Javier, Eric Mary, Indar Dhaliwal, Jim Berndt, Joseph D’Cruz, Matthias Coessens, Michael Mueller and Mike Riley all getting the opportunity of a photo with the Tee Set dress up bag. Dan Javier was able to come up and recover his fine as he was awarded Low Putts after his 28 putts on the day.

Kim Pham had the First Par for handicaps >= 30 on hole 9 whilst Most Improved went to Jasper Bouman who was 11 strokes better on the back 9. Tim Evershed won First Sandy for his effort on hole 3 whilst a birdie on hole 2 saw VP Ric Wymer win First Birdie. Although eclipsed by the excellent round of our Monthly Medal winner, President Roger Finnie was awarded Low Gross for his round of 80 off the stick.

Low Net winners were Richie Tiblani (69) in A Grade on a count-back from Shawn Berg, the evergreen Geoff Thwaites (67) in B Grade and Riahana Ariestya (69) in C Grade. For the Monthly Medal skill prizes the Long Drive awards went to Elliot Hawkins and Reni Riley whilst Werner Muchitsch was Nearest the Pin.

The first winner of the new Monthly Medal Shield and our first Monthly Medalist of 2019 is Lorenzo Marengo who shot a best of the day 78 gross to record 46 stableford points with our sponsor, Geoff Thwaites second on 41 points. In lieu of our new shield arriving, Geoff was on hand to present the old one for the photo to Lorenzo.

Congratulations to Lorenzo and all our winners on the day and the detailed results can be found here.

Tee Set Match-Play 2019

The 2019 Tee Set Match Play Championship registrations were closed on Sunday at the conclusion of the Monthly Medal. The Match-Play Supremo, James Ross, organized a random drawing of the first round matches to determine players’ placement into the 2 knock-out brackets.

Details have been sent to all registered players and can also be found here on the Match Play page of the website.

Placement round matches to be completed by 3rd March 2019.

Next Up: Riverside 12pm 3rd February 2019

RiversideThis Sunday we take the short trip down to Junction 19 on the Jagorawi toll to visit the excellent Riverside course. The Greg Norman designed Riverside is always one of the most interesting challenges on the Tee Set schedule with the Shark’s trademark optical illusions regularly fooling the unwary.

To join us for the fun of one of Jakarta’s finest courses on Sunday just sign up here as usual. Green fees of Rp775,000 including a shared cart with a tee time of 12.00pm: please be there around 11.00am as we should have a shot-gun start so it takes a little more time to get bags/players organized and out to the respective holes

    Sorry I missed the day.

FYI. I was in a road accident in Bali last week got injured so out of commission for golf for about 6 weeks according to the Doctor. 😔

    I won’t share what’s under the bandages!

    Best regards
