Sunday 24th February 2019 Cengkareng

The DayWeek 2 of our west Jakarta swing saw 42 Tee Setters take the relatively short and quick trip towards the airport as we visited one of our favourite venues, Cengkareng Golf Club. A lot to play for this week with Eclectic IX coming to a conclusion and as usual on the last Sunday of the month, our Monthly Medal.

After a couple of weeks of wet courses, the President announced before the round that we would play lift, clean and place for the first time this year but we were to go out and enjoy a relatively firm course under bright sunshine albeit that there was not as much run as usual.

Our only draw back on the day was the very slow round taking over 5 1/2 hours due to a very busy course in front of us; an usual experience for us at Cengkareng but it did give us all time to socialize on the course whilst admiring the fine fashion choices of some of our players recently returned from trips to Thailand.

2 new comers joined us on the day with Mikko Heinonen and Chung Sung Young both getting a warm Tee Set welcome.

Many thanks to VP Ric Wymer for acting as our scorer straight after coming off the course due to the absence of our secretary and thank you to Craig Edwards for again helping with the registrations before, and the scoring after, the round. Pictures of the day can be found here.

The Play

A day of extremes of scoring with no less than 23 players, more than half the field, qualifying for a fine. Our list of 10 players tying for Most Strokes of 10 on a hole made the treasurer very happy and added to the 12 skirts recorded on the day. Almost lost amongst the photo taking and merriment was Monster Putter Sang Young Park for his 45 strokes on the greens to take home the “triple crown” of fines.

The harvest of fines compensated us for some ties in the skill prizes with Indar Dhaliwal, Michael Mueller and Marcelo de Jesus all sharing Most Improved on 8 whilst Fernando Gaggino and Richard Mau shared 1st Birdie on hole 1. First Sandy went to Craig Edwards for his effort on hole 5. Low Putts went to Jens Roestel for an impressive 25 strokes only on the greens.

Low Gross was awarded to Tim Knight for his 79 off the stick whilst Low Net Prizes went to Efsi Hayati (66), Aljosja Van Dorssen (71) and Matt Otto (66) in A, B and C Grades respectively. Our Monthly Medal skill prizes were won by newcomer Chung Sung Young for NTP and stalwarts Simon Oxley and Rosie Tjaden for Long Drives.

Lorenzo Marengo was belatedly presented with his January Monthly Medal and also was our winner of Eclectic IX which concluded on Sunday; his Eclectic score of 53 just being enough to hold off Eclectic VII winner James Ross, Richie Tiblani and the hard charging Lis Wymer who tied for 2nd on 55. Lis was however our big winner on the day as she took home the Monthly Medal after a best ever round of 88 which netted her 45 points, just pipping Matt Otto who recorded 43 points on the day.

Lis was presented with the new shield and her medal by Ric. Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results can be found here.

Tee Set Match Play: Last week for 1st round matches

Sunday saw 3 more matches completed with Matt Otto winning 3&1 over Simon Oxley in a high quality game, Richie Tiblani beating the Singing President Craig Ewers 5&4 and Simon Reynolds prevailing 2up against 2018 Match Play runner-up Santi Miller.

A reminder to send your results into James Ross by email and to remaining 8 players to arrange for your matches to be completed by next Sunday, 3rd March, or we will adjudicate the results in accordance with the rules published.

Gading Raya has been one of Tee Set’s favourites and deservedly so with an excellent course and good facilities being complemented by relatively easy access for many Tee Setters.

Tee times off 1 & 10 at 11.30am have been confirmed along with the attractive pricing of Rp815,000 with carts.

Lots of good reasons therefore to sign up here and we look forward to seeing all who can join us on Sunday
