Sunday 3rd March 2019 Gading Raya

The Day

Sunday saw most of us awoken by heavy thunderstorms and with reports of the early morning starters at Gading Raya being held up by the weather, many pictured a wet day and a slow round.

However, reality could not have been much further from our initial concerns as the storms abated as we were arriving and the morning golfers had mostly given up and gone home before the course re-opened. The 32 keen Tee Setters who made it out to Gading Raya this week were therefore to enjoy an early tee off, an almost empty course in front of them and an excellent dry afternoon under broken cloudy skies. We were round in about 4 hours and all finished by 5pm allowing us to enjoy some refreshments and still be home early.

Gading Raya has excellent drainage, so the greens and fairways played remarkably well despite the down pour they had endured over-night. Our appreciation to the management at Gading for looking after us and to Jens Roestel who acted as chief coordinator to ensure we were well taken care of on the day.

4 newcomers on the day with Seunghwan Baek, Michael Paulo, Chris Hunter and Malcolm Hines all been given a warm Tee Set welcome. We also welcomed back 2017 Match Play winner Jari Antikainen after 63 weeks. We look forward to seeing you all out again soon.

Many thanks to Beby for handling all the registrations and scoring on the day and photos of the day can be found here.

The Play

The fast round and early completion of scoring caught a few coming in late to the prize-giving after their showers and so the skirt was out more often than usual despite only 4 “winners” this week: Zander Watt, Rudie Basson, Sungyoung Chung and Tan Chee Hwa. With Most Stokes also, Zander did a 2-for with the Monkey which then made its way to Harry Lopez for his Monster Putter effort of 42 putts.

First Par for Handicaps =>30 went on hole 1 to Andrew Shaw whilst First Birdie went on hole 2 to Jens Roestel. Most Improved was Laurie O’Connor with 15 and Roger Finnie was Low Putts with 28.

First Sandy went to Graham Parsonage for his effort on hole 12 whilst Low Gross was Tim Knight after his 79 off the stick.

Our Low Net winners on the day were Richard Mau (71), Dan Javier (74) and Lis Wymer (70). Congratulations to all the winners and detailed results are here.

Tee Set Match Play

Last week-end was the end of the bracket placement round and 3 matches remained unreported as of 3rd March and therefore will have our usual adjudication rules applied to determine who goes into which bracket for the knock-out phase of the competition.

The first knock-out game has already been completed with Roger Finnie winning 4&3 against Rudie Basson yesterday at Gading Raya. Please check out the Match Play page on our website for your next opponent; matches to be completed by 21st April 2019.

Next Up: Padang Modern Sunday 10th March Rp850k

Ever popular for competitions which unfortunately tend to run into the afternoon tee times, our schedule at Padang Modern is therefore always subject to change and last year saw us visiting there less often than we initially scheduled. However, as a former host of our Monthly Medal, we are always pleased to head back when we can find a gap in their competition Sundays and so this week sees us back out west to Modern for the first time in 6 months.

We are always well looked after and have an enjoyable round so please come and join us if you are free. Tee time is 12.00pm and the cost, including cart, is Rp850,000. If you are interested to join us please sign up here to register

Before that, on this Thursday’s public holiday there is a fun 2 man stableford event being held at Riverside, hosted by T-Drivers. Please see the classified page for more details and contact the organizers directly if you are interested to join.

Jakarta Inter-League: Calling all interested Players

After many years of being hosted by Jagorawi Golf and Country Club, the 2019 JIL season will get on the way on 24th March 2019 at a new venue, Riverside. As in 2018, Tee Set will hold its weekly event on the JIL Sundays at the same course and we will field 1 team from registered players to compete for the Society in JIL. Usually we have requests for Tee Set to help fill out one or more of the teams so we can give more opportunities to play than just the 8 required to fill our team on any given week.

This year, we are appointing a new Captain, Simon Oxley, with the hope he can galvanize our team to victory and recover the JIL Cup last won in 2015. Simon would love to hear from any player interested to play in JIL and represent Tee Set so if you are able to answer the call, please contact him directly via whatsapp on +62 811 1201 378.
