The Day
Our now annual week-end trip to Rancamaya during Ramadan in conjunction with the D.O.G.S. is always a popular week-end. Many members of both societies come down for a full weekend to enjoy a practice round on Saturday, the Saturday night BBQ where 40 enjoyed a good evening and then the usual Sunday competitions held in parallel to a match-play game between the 2 societies. A big thank you to Mark Johnson for all the advance arrangements with the hotel, to John & Sarah Brown for coordinating the course bookings for both groups and to VP Ric Wymer for taking care of the Tee Set arrangements along with Lis Wymer and Brenda Mayland whilst the President was away.
As usual for the Bogor area, the weather gave us some threatening clouds but the day went off smoothly apart from a couple of our senior members suffering from something eaten the day before and not able to fully enjoy the day. We had an early start but got backed up a little on the front 9; after the turn the round went quickly and the prize giving was able to start in time to allow all of us to enjoy some food and drinks at the clubhouse afterwards before returning to Jakarta.
1 newcomer to welcome on the day and a warm Tee Set welcome to Cory Packard as well as notable welcome back to George Baptiste after 329 weeks, Richie Tiblani and 32 weeks and the newly repaired Tom Grace after 21 weeks.
In the match-play, D.O.G.S. edged Tee Set 5-3 to recover the trophy after a year’s hiatus and at the presentation a warm toast in memory of the inspiration behind the week-end, Juergen Degert, was raised. Congratulations to D.O.G.S. and a full week-end was best summed up by the picture captured here:
The Play
Last seen struggling on one hole, we were pleased to see Rudie Basson back in time to participate to the prize giving in being recognized for his Most Strokes of 16 on a hole. Only 1 skirt on the day as a rusty Tom Grace got to enjoy the dress up outfit to himself whilst Andrew Clydesdale and Joe Callahan both struggled on the recently cored greens and racked up 42 putts to share Monster Putter.
Most Improved was Matthias Coessens who was 12 strokes better on his second 9 whilst First Sandy and First Birdie went to Matt Otto and Fernando Gaggino, respectively
Low Putts went to Richie Tiblani who pipped 4 others on 29 putts with his 28 stroke effort on the day whilst Low Gross was won by Andrew Waite after an excellent 83. Our Low Net winners on the day were Shawn Berg, Eric Mary and Indar Dhaliwal.
Thank you to everyone who participated to the week-end; detailed results are here and photos here.
Next Up: Rainbow Hills Sunday 2nd June
Precisely 50 weeks on from our last visit, we round off our Ramadan Tour of the great Bogor area courses on Sunday with a visit to the delightful Rainbow Hills. Always a great backdrop for some spectacular photos when the mountains are in view, Rainbow Hills is a good golfing challenge especially on the very undulating greens. Good food and the views also make for a relaxing after round refreshment safe in the knowledge the Toll should be smooth home.
For those with outstanding match-play games to play, the cut off is a week on Sunday 30th June so please make your arrangements to get your match in.
Tee off is slightly earlier than normal at 11.30am with a 2 tee start so don’t be late! Pricing is a very reasonable Rp814,000 with cart so if you can join us please sign up here.
