Sunday 30th June 2019 Cengkareng Monthly Medal

Thank you all for those pointing out the premature posting yesterday and apologies…below is the full post duly updated.

The Day

The last Sunday of the month saw us head once more to Cengkareng for June’s monthly medal and for those interested in the Eclectic, round 3 of Cycle X. A beautiful albeit slightly hazy day greeted the 37 Tee Setters who came along this week and with many of us arriving early, there was lots of socializing being done around the clubhouse ahead of our regular noon tee time.

The course itself was in great conditions and with the bright sunshine baking the greens, they ran true and fast this week which brought its own challenge to some as can be seen in the results below. Overall it made for some good scoring and we all enjoyed a relatively quick and untroubled round.

4 newcomers with a warm Tee Set welcome being given to Wuttiworanat Meeswa, John Savage, Fred Papachristidis-Bove, and Andy Briston. Also shown in the new-comers as it was so long since his last visit was Ronan O’Neil and the rest of our welcome backs included Dave Allan (192 weeks), Supachai Pojsilpach (152 weeks) and Neil Hallet (135 weeks). An impressive set of welcome backs and we hope to see you all out again shortly.

A warm welcome back was also given to our Secretary, Brenda Mayland and many thanks to her for managing the registrations and scoring on the day. Photos are posted here as usual: https://www.flickr.com/photos/106229755@N06/albums/72157709331729602

The Play

As is often the case, our new comers tend to get in amongst the prize giving and this week was no different with Fred Papachristidas-Bove getting called up for Most Strokes and a Skirt where he was joined by Paul Daud and then Craig Edwards, Dave Allan and Franz Heuken, respectively. Fred missed out on the trifecta with Monster Putter going to Lorenzo Marengo. Most Improved went to Matt Otto who was also proudly sporting his Tee Set socks from the 2015 Championship.

Amol Singhal took First Birdie and with Roger Finnie taking Low Gross, a 3-way tie saw Richard Mau, Andy Briston and Ronan O’Neill share Low Putts. First Sandy went to Renni Puri. Our Low Net winners were Simon Oxley, Geoff Thwaites and Joe Callahan.

Our Monthly Medal skill prizes went to Hana Ariestya and Andy Briston for their Long Drives and to Samret Raungrit for NTP. James Ross and Simon Oxley were our runners-up in the Monthly Medal which was taken by Ronald Lim after his Gross 80 netted him 41 points. Unfortunately Ronald was absent at the prize giving so we will get his picture for the web-site on another week.

Congratulations to all our winners and details of the results are here: Form_ Current Results for CGK 30 Jun 19

Tee Set Match-Play

The final match in the current round was completed on the deadline with Simon Reynolds defeating Dan Javier 2&1. The next round is the bracket semi-finals and games are due to be played by 25th August 2019.

Farwell and best wishes…

Although no official confirmations we understand a number of our regular Tee Setters are departing shortly for pastures new. The rumour mill informs us that:

  • Chris Lever will depart to Egypt to take up a new post there;
  • Rudie Basson’s contract in Jakarta is complete and he will return home to South Africa;
  • Arthur Mallari is returning to the Philippines with San Miguel

We wish you all the best of luck and look forward to welcoming you back should your travels bring them back to Jakarta at some point in the future.
