The Day
After last week’s quieter turn-out, this week was a bumper Sunday with 55 Tee Setters arriving to the ever popular Cengkareng course to enjoy an excellent day out. Despite the Jakarta marathon causing some diversions in town, everyone was able to arrive in good time and our 14 groups headed out as scheduled. The course itself was quite busy but after a slightly slow start, we all managed to get round without undue delay with the last groups getting in before the light faded.
Our numbers were boosted by 11 newcomers this week, a mixture of soon to be regulars and visitors with a warm Tee Set welcome to Jon Goddard, Joakim Elmquist, Janson Yong, James Bristow, Hidekazu Sato, David Foong, Carl Lund, Lo Ten Haven, Nathan Farley, Juha Suomi and Anton Rusli.
Some large welcome backs too with Roger Thompson heading the way after 231 weeks; joined by Ian Butcher, Holger Molendyk, Barry Widjaja, Jongchun Kim, Rosie Putri and Arne Tjaden. The only challenge we had fitting everyone in was the formatting of our summary sheet as you will see below… it was a pleasure to see everyone again and no surprise we were last to leave the club house well after 8pm.
Many thanks to VP Ric Wymer for managing the scoring summary and Secretary Beby for the registrations despite not being here this week and to those willing hands on the day: Dave Prosser, Audie Kaunang, Ian Butcher and Santi Miller.
The Play
Some excellent scores returned but as always at Cengkareng there were many fines to keep the Treasurer happy this week too. Monster Putter was shared between Holger Molendyk and Hidekazu Sato whilst Cucu Chandra had a Happy Gilmore moment on hole 5, eventually getting over on the 5th attempt as she secured Most Strokes by quite some way. However, equally impressive was the return on skirts with Bill Lloyd, Dan Javier, Don Duttlinger, Ian Butcher, Jari Antikainen, Oliver Fritz, Roger Thompson, Tapio Jarvenpaa, Matthew Makarenko and Timo Karonen all getting honorable mentions in dispatches.
With Oliver having departed, Matthew Makarenko was to recover his fine with Most Improved whilst the ladies cleaned up on our “1st” awards, Santi Miller for 1st Sandy and Aurelie Neufkens for 1st Birdie – both on the First!. Low Putts went to newcomer David Foong.
Low Gross went to Carl Lund for his excellent 79 off the stick whilst our Long Drive prizes were taken home by Cucu Chandra and James Bristow. Not quite defending his monthly medal, Tom Grace did not go home empty handed as he took out the Nearest the Pin prize. Before the main prizes were awarded, we also took the opportunity to reunite Jari Antikainen with his Match Play winners trophy from 2017… last in his possession at the 2017 championship party and a very good example of why the event should not be missed…. sign-ups below for 2019…..
Our monthly medal was a very close run competition with a 3-way tie on 42 points. Jochen Overberg and Exra Alexander were the unfortunate runner-ups having to be content with Low Net C & B where they were joined by Arne Tjaden as Mark Fiorello had already had to depart. Winning the count-back and taking home the Monthly Medal after 25 points on the back 9 was Anna Wilson.
Congratulations to all our winner and the detailed results are here: Form_ Current Results Cengkareng 271019

After having added an extra visit, then had to rearrange, we have again been cancelled by Emeralda this week due tournaments being booked on our scheduled dates. However, thanks to the responsiveness of the team at Gading Raya, we have been able to secure a good booking at short notice.
