Sunday 1st December 2019 Gading Raya

The Day

The week after the Championships can be a quieter week for Tee Set but Gading Raya is a popular venue and so placing it on the calendar as our first week of the new season helps to ensure a healthy turnout. This week 34 Tee Setters and their guests joined us for an enjoyable day on this well looked after course with only the rather unscheduled, and recent coring, taking away from a great day out. Gading were apologetic for not informing us ahead of time and kindly provided some green fee vouchers to be shared amongst the group in compensation.

Not necessarily possessing swings for the purests, Tee Setters all share a love of the game and a few refreshments were enjoyed as usual afterwards; a good day out had by all!!

A warm Tee Set welcome to newcomers Tim Eldred and Damian Kelford and a warm welcome backs to  Stefan Skibinski, Adam Leigh-Smith, Michael Seabrook and Tony Cowan.

Many thanks to VPs Ric Wymer and Bill Lloyd for looking after the day as the President was absent nursing his post St Andrew’s Ball hangover. The results are here:  Gading 20191201 Results and photos of the day here

The Play

Whilst refreshed from the recent rains, the course was still running relatively well and so the small number of skirts was not too unexpected; Mike Webb, Oliver Fritz and Michael Seabrook all getting themselves an early marker in for our Cross Dresser of the Year award.  Most Strokes went to Kathy Scalabre and the difficult green condition challenged some of our golfers on the day, none more so than our Monster Putter, Tapio Jarvenenpaa. Michael was to get his money back sharing Most Improved with Alastair Livingston and newcomer Damian Kelford whilst Timo Karonen has rather made First Par handicaps >= 30 his own in recent weeks. Our First Eagle for the year was secured by Craig Binks.

First Birdie was shared by Jens Roestel and Adam Leigh-Smith and Low Putts by Jeff Landau who was beaten by Tim Knight for Low Gross after a count-back. Our Low Net winners for the week were Axel Hertzke, Ric Wymer and Tan Chee Hua.

Congratulations to all our winners on the day.

Next Up: Jagorawi Sunday 8th December 2019

With JIL having moved to Riverside this season, we only have a limited number of visits to Jagorawi in 2019; this week being only our second visit of the year. We look forward to playing the excellent but tricky golfing challenge of the New Course where you really need to think through many of your shots, particularly off the tee.

Tee time is 12.30pm officially but we are expecting to get off a little earlier and possibly with a shot-gun start so we ask all of you to be at the course before 12pm please.

We will play white tees this week for men and if you are interested to join us please sign up here. Price is Rp999k with carts.
