Sunday 15th December 2019: Cengkareng Monthly Medal

The Day

With the Monthly Medal moved up a couple of weeks in December before the holiday season starts, yesterday we headed off to Cengkareng for our last visit of the year; Sunday also marked the end of Cycle XI of the Eclectic completion which together with the attractions of good service and an excellent golf course meant we attracted a healthy turn out of 50 golfers.

Although the rumble of potential rain greeted our starting time, we were all to enjoy a dry and relatively cool day as the cloud cover provided a bit of shade and the gentle breeze some cooling on an otherwise muggy day. Freshened from recent rain, the greens were receptive and the course in good condition which all led to some excellent scoring as is reported below.

4 new-comers on the day and a warm Tee Set welcome was given to Diana Budiarti, Jae Won Lee, Karl Park and Rodney Weeks. A warm welcome back to Karan Khetan after 50 weeks and we look forward to seeing all out again soon.

Thank you to Brenda Mayland for the excellent management of the several group changes at registration and for the scoring afterwards. The photos of the day are here.

The Play

A bumper turn-out & X-mas celebrations in full swing made for a very happy Treasurer as fully 13 skirts were recorded on the day, almost 1/3 of the eligible field getting up to have their photo taken: Andrew Shaw, Chris Lever, David Baglivo, Fred Papachristidis-Bove, Graham Parsonage, Jae Won Lee, Karan Khetan, Mark Johnson, Oliver Fritz, Pepi Kurniawan, Rodney Weeks, Simon Oxley and Tribhuvan Singh. Monster Putter was shared between Mike Webb and Lorenzo Marengo whilst Most Strokes went to Karl ParkOliver  was however back up shortly thereafter to collect his prize as First Par Handicaps >=30.

Also back up was Simon Oxley who shared First Birdie with Marcelo de Jesus and Karan Khetan who won 1st Sandy. Low Putter on the day was newcomer Rodney Weeks.

First Eagle on the day went to Mike Ha whilst Most Improved was Cory Packard. Cory was also back up with Juju Juhaeriah for their Long Drives in the Monthly Medal skills prizes. Lorenzo Marengo was our NTP but was absent at the prize giving…..

Low Gross went to Roger Finnie whilst Ian Butcher, James Ross and 2019 Tee Set Champion Mike Riley took out the Low Net prizes with some impressive scoring on the day. Ian was unlucky on the day with a score which would have won all but 1 of the previous monthly medals but today he needed to settle for runner-up as Holger Molendyk’s impressive 48 points took home the prize for our final medal of the year.

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here: Cengkareng 151219 Results

In the final round of Eclectic Cycle XI, most of the leading contenders were present and some impressive improvements were recorded; this included Round 3 leader Tom Grace who held onto his lead to bring home the Trophy…. this was metaphorical on the day as the President was still hung-over from the night before and forgot to bring it to the course! Apologies to Tom and Holger and we will get proper photos for the website in due course.

Cycle XII and our search for the 1st repeat winner will commence with the next Monthly Medal, January 2020.

Next Up: Riverside Sunday 22nd December 2019 11.30am

For the 3rd year in succession, our penultimate round of the year sees us team up with our friends from Djakarta Old Golfing Society and POCKSIA to head down to Riverside for a casual & fun 2 ball better ball event.

RiversideThis Greg Norman designed course is always one of the most interesting challenges on the Tee Set schedule with the Shark’s trademark optical illusions regularly fooling the unwary; meaning its an ideal venue for a team event where the risks and rewards of the round can be shared with your team-mate of the day.

As in the previous 2 years, we will play in 2 person teams which will be determined on the day by a blind draw from all the players registered on the morning. The draw will consist of one player from the lower handicap half of the field drawing a partner from the higher handicap half of the field. We have been assured of an earlier tee off so do not be late (10.30am please!) as the drawing will be conducted at 11.00 am so we can get the pairings to the starter. Late arrivals will be paired as they come.

Scoring on each hole for the team will be based on the better ball net score off individual handicaps, 5 lowest team scores will win the prizes on offer….

Come join us for the fun and challenge of one of Jakarta’s finest courses on Sunday by signing up here as usual. Green fees of Rp775,000 including a shared cart with a tee time of 11.30pm

For those Tee Setters who are already travelling or who are busy the next couple of weeks, on behalf of the Committee we wish you and your families a joyous festive season and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you out on the fairways in 2020.
