The Day

Our pre-Christmas 2BBB stableford event hosted with members from the Djakarta Old Golfing Society and Pocksia has, over the last 3 years, become a popular event on the calendar. On Sunday we had 26 golfers turn-up in good time for our 11.30am shot-gun start and put their names into the “hat” for the blind draw pairings.

Freshly rediscovered in the dark recesses of the garage after being MIA for 3 years, the Christmas hats made a reappearance and were put into active service for the pre-tee off group photos.

President Roger Finnie and Mark Johnson then conducted the team blind draw which threw up some strong and interesting pairings. Teams and starting holes sorted, we headed to the starter hut for our shot-gun start under bright sunshine, with the gentle breeze making its best efforts to keep us cool amongst the humidity coming from the course which was drying off from the previous nights rain.

With no-one in front of us we were all making good time and returning some excellent scores up to the turn, many teams being 4-6 strokes under par. However, as most teams reached their 9th or 10th hole, a large lightening storm followed by heavy rains hit the course quite suddenly. This pushed us into the storm shelters or half way house where, after drinking the hut dry, it was decided that the storms would not abate soon enough for us to complete the game and so the round was abandoned.

All showered and with no prize giving to conduct, we used the day’s prize fund to purchase several buckets of refreshments which were enjoyed by everyone as we chatted the rest of the afternoon away. A huge thank you to Riverside management for their generous offer of a rain check to everyone present so that we could all come back on a, hopefully, drier day.
