Sunday 29th December 2019 BSD

The Day

Sunday was our final game of 2019 and although most Tee Setters were away making the most of the extended holiday period, we welcomed a keen and happy group of 22 players for our visit to BSD. Morning showers gave us a little concern about being able to finish our round uninterrupted from the weather again this week but our concerns were to unnecessary as we had perfect weather for our day’s golf and evening soiree.

The starter got us out as the first groups in the afternoon schedule and with an empty course ahead of us, we whizzed round to be all finished at an unheard of, 3.50pm; prize-giving and all! The course itself was in great shape after a few weeks of rain and with the greens receptive, there were several very good scores returned on the day as can be read below.

A warm welcome to Christopher Berg and Drew Franklin, holiday visitors to Jakarta who came out and joined us on Sunday. Warm welcome backs to David Collecot after 79 weeks and David O’Shea and Ryan McPhee after 40 weeks.

With an early finish and the promise of some Tee Set refreshments on offer, most of the group retired to the restaurant to help Mark Johnson celebrate his birthday and to enjoy a pleasant and relaxed finish to the golfing year.

Many thanks to VP Ric Wymer for managing all the scoring on the day. Photos of the day are here.

The Play

Heading a list of good gross scores this week was Simon Reynolds after his impressive 75 on the day. Grand Master of the flat stick this week was a very happy Jochen Overberg whilst Christopher Berg collected First Birdie.

First Sandy went to Roger Finnie and our Low Net winners were Axel Hertzke, David O’Shea and Tan Chee Hua. No skirts today but our big prize getter of the day was Kim Pham who collected Most Improved and First Par Handicaps >=30 which were offset by Most Strokes and Monster Putter – the one prize/one fine rule resulting in a net gain of Rp50k only…

Next Up: Gading Raya 11.30am Sunday 5th January 2020

Having also kicked-off the new Tee Set year at Gading Raya, we have decided to minimize the risks of rain interruptions by staying on the west side of Jakarta for the New Year and therefore return there to visit one of our more popular courses. In addition to being close to many Tee Setters’ homes, the Gading Raya team make a good effort to look after us and thus it is a pleasure to go back for another round there.

Tee times off 1 & 10 at 11.30am have been confirmed along with the attractive pricing of Rp850,000 with carts. If you are able to join us please sign up here and we look forward to seeing all who can make it on Sunday

2020 Tee Set Charity Drive

In 2019 Tee Set members donated over 160kg of unwanted clothes which went to support the relief efforts in Palu and Lombok helping those affected by the earthquakes which badly hit those regions. For the current year, we would like to launch a new effort, appropriately named Tee Set Vision 20/20.

Like your President, I am sure many of you have old glasses and/or outdated prescriptions which are lying in your drawers at home. We will be happy to collect these from you over the next few months and once we have a sizable collection, we will distribute them amongst the poor and needy where they can make a difference to the quality of life for many. Please bring them along to any Tee Set game and pass them to any committee members to add to the collection. If you know the actual prescription please put a small note in the glasses box or on the frames – if not we’ll sort it out! Thank you in advance for your contributions to this worthy effort.
