Sunday 2nd February 2020 Takara Golf Resort

R.I.P Ian Barr

We start this week’s post with the sad news of the passing of Ian Barr on 20th January after a battle with cancer. Ian was someone who carried himself with a sense of humility and  generosity, always a smile on the face and looking to enjoy life’s experiences to the fullest. A regular at Tee Set and across other golf groups here in Jakarta, Ian remains the only Tee Setter to have won both the Tee Set Championship and Tee Set Match Play which he achieved in the same year, 2009.

Our condolences to Jan Barron, Ian’s partner, and all his family.

The Day

A wet morning, a longer than normal drive to a new course, the night after the BWA Ball … many of the reasons circulating for not coming on Sunday but for those 21 Tee Setters who made the effort, we were rewarded with an excellent day of golf on an enjoyable lay out offering a fair challenge for all levels of players; fairways were relatively wide and open, the bunkers and greens in good condition despite the obvious recent rains and a few holes required careful shot selection off the tees. The general consensus was that we should add a couple more visits to Takara for the calendar making it a good addition to our schedule even with the journey being around 75-90 minutes from central Jakarta.

We were also blessed with the weather as apart from a brief shower, the day was dry and the end of the round finished in warm sunshine as we gathered in the clubhouse for the prize giving after a smooth round.

We welcomed 2 new Tee Setters on Sunday with Prosad Biswas and Perry Wang joining us for the first time. No notable welcome backs in terms of time but it was a pleasure to see Dave Prosser back in action.

Many thanks to Simon Reynolds for making the arrangements with the course and to Ric Wymer for the scoring and registrations on the day. Photos of the day are here.

The Play

A trifecta of booby prizes for our newcomer Prosad Biswas who took home Monster Putter, Most Strokes and a skirt, the latter shared with Marcelo de Jesus and Keith Gorman.

Most Improved went to Alastair Livingston, First Birdie to Roger Finnie and Low Putts to Keith Gorman on a count back from Mick Mongold.  Low Gross on the day went to Tim Knight.

Our Low Net prizes went to James Bristow, Matt McGowan and Tribhuvan Singh (eventually after his handicap was updated but not before Jari Antikainen could collect his reward as the announced winner : – )!)

In the Tee Set Match Play, our first game was completed with Tribhuvan Singh continuing his rich vein of form to win 7&6 against new Tee Set JIL Captain Simon Reynolds. Detailed results from the day are here: Takara Results

A thank you to the Gading Raya team for accommodating us at short notice and we will continue to try and secure a reasonable deal with BSD so we can return there shortly.
