Sunday 1st March 2020 Emeralda

The Day

Our numbers were no doubt curtailed on Sunday as the weather forecast for the day showed an 80% chance of rain all day at Emeralda and so a few of our potential players quite understandably took the safe option of keeping dry at home. However, 80% chance of rain also means 20% chance of no rain and so it was to prove with the 25 Tee Setters who turned out rewarded by a window of dry weather for 5 hours which just happened to coincide with our tee time. It meant we were to all get around, largely dry, despite the grumblings of the oncoming storms which arrived and closed the course just as we completed our round.

That we were to be able to finish was thanks to the team at Emeralda which looked after us and ensured we could all start with a semi-shot gun just as the morning rains finished. With lift, clean and place in play, we were able to avoid most of the challenges of the wet and soft conditions and the scores returned on the day reflected this as the course was generally in good condition given all the rain recently.

2 newcomers on the day with a warm Tee Set welcome being given to Mike Kasli and Grace Tang and a warm welcome back to both Peter Bosterli after 29 weeks and Mick Dodsworth after 14 weeks.

Many thanks to Lis Wymer for coordinating the registrations and pairings with the course management and to Ric Wymer for the scoring on the day.

The Play

Fined only the normal amount for a ball which apparently failed to reach even the Blue Tees, a shy David Baglivo was surprisingly our only skirt on the day. Monster Putter went to Andrew Shaw whilst Timo Karonen again secured First Par for Handicaps >=30 which, as is equally regular, off set his fine, this week for Most Strokes.

Low Putts went to the returning Peter Bosterli whilst Jari Antikainen won First Birdie. Low Gross on the day went to our reigning Low Gross Champion Richard Mau.

Excellent rounds in the conditions were turned in by VP Bill Lloyd (net 65) and Indar Dhaliwal (68) to secure Low Net awards where they were joined by Roger Finnie.

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here: Emeralda Results 01-03-20

Next Up: Riverside and Jakarta Inter-League 8th March 2020 11.30 shot-gun

This Sunday we again take the short trip back down to Junction 19 on the Jagorawi toll, this time on the other side of the toll road as we visit the excellent Riverside course. The Greg Norman designed Riverside is always one of the most interesting challenges on the Tee Set schedule with the Shark’s trademark optical illusions regularly fooling the unwary.

In addition to our weekly schedule, this Sunday sees the first round of the 2020 Jakarta Inter-League (JIL) season as Tee Set’s team, under the leadership of this year’s Captain Simon Reynolds, seeks to regain the crown last won in 2015. For those interested in more details of JIL please see the website page here.

As usual, for those Tee Set players participating in JIL (whether for Tee Set or otherwise), please also sign up as normal for the weekly competition so we can capture you for both events.

To join us for the fun of one of Jakarta’s finest courses on Sunday just sign up here as usual. Green fees of Rp850,000 including a shared cart and some free range balls with a tee time of 11.30pm.

Notes:

(1) please be registered before 11.00am as we will have a shot-gun start and it takes a little more time to get bags/players organized out to the respective holes

(2) as JIL will be played off the white tees for men, we will play the white tees for Tee Set too. Ladies remain on the red tees.
