The Day
An excellent turn-out of around 67 players at Riverside for Inter-League round 4 and Tee Set’s usual Sunday game for whom 38 chipped into the pot to join the competition. A big recognition to the Riverside team who took some learnings from the last visit and applied them to the arrangements this week, getting us all off smoothly and on time. The course was is in great condition and the main test of the day came from the weather which arrived just after we had teed off and was hanging around until the last couple of holes. Nevertheless, that did not seem to stop some very good scores being turned in so clearly a few of the group were comfortable in the wet conditions.
No photos yet available so a rather short report on the day; no newcomers either but warm welcome backs to Albert Smith (390 weeks), Malcom Hines (79), Matt McGowan (33) and Tapio Jarvenpaa (27).
A thank you to Fernando Gaggino and Jens Roestel for helping to manage the starting arrangements and registrations before the round.
The Play
No skirts today but Most Strokes was shared between David Baglivo and Paul Daud whilst although his putting stats are heading the in right direction, Patrick Chaundy kept his hands on the Monster Putter prize. Most Improved was Bill Lloyd whilst Bags redeemed himself finacially with First Sandy and Indar Dhaliwal took for First Par for Handicaps >=30.
Hot out the blocks were Mark Johnson and Tapio Jarvenpaa who scored birdies on their first holes whilst Divya Ahuja‘s chipping and putting saved a slightly off radar day to take home Low Putts.
Leading from the front was Tee Set Captain Simon Reynolds who won Low Gross whilst our Low Net winners were Dave Prosser, Mark Johnson and Tapio Jarvenpaa.
Congratulations to all the winners and detailed results are here: Riverside 2009 Results
Round 4 of the Jakarta Inter-league was being played this week too and with some many of the team playing well despite the conditions, they scored a well won victory 8-2 over Tin Cups. The other 2 matches finished 7-3 with Sandbaggers prevailing over Pocksia and Cloggies prevailing over Sentul Swingers. This sets up a winner takes all clash between Cloggies and Sandbaggers as the top 2 take on each other in the final round robin next month.
Tee Set Championship 2020 Cengkareng – Saturday 28th November
With 9 weeks to go until the last week-end in November, we have launched sign-ups and other arrangements for the 2020 Tee Set Championships. As announced already, after an 8 year run at Matoa, following earlier editions at Pangkalan Jati and Jagorawi, we have decided to make a move to Cengkareng Golf Course, home of the monthly medal for the past 3 years and a course where we have also been very well looked after. In a further refresh of arrangements, we have decided to hold the event on Saturday afternoon so that everyone can party the night away and still wake up for a Sunday game Matoa… just a little later than usual on the last Sunday of November and with our friends from the Djakarta Old Golf Society. A big thank you to the DOGS committee for accommodating our change in arrangements on this week-end.
As always, our sponsors are key to the event and we will be looking to both re-sign up our existing sponsors and secure some new ones to make the day run successfully; look out for a message from event coordinator Ric Wymer or even better, please contact him if you are able to help out.
More details on the day will follow soon but in the meantime, registrations are open here: 2020-tee-set-championship-registration/. The event field is limited to 100 players, so with 23 players already signed up, there are just 77 slots remaining….any extras go onto the waiting list on a first come first reserved basis. A list of those signed up is here so those who think they have signed up can check we got your registration… if you signed up but don’t see your name please contact Roger asap: Championship Sign Up tracking 2020
New course, new day, new timing… is it time for a new President.? With the existing President reaching his 4th Championship at the head of the Society, we will be calling for new blood to step-up and take Tee Set forward. Look out for details on how to put your name forward to take on this rewarding and illustrious position.
Next Up Cengkareng Sunday 27th September 2020
A chance for everyone to get some practice on our Championship 2020 course as on Sunday we head back to one of Jakarta’s finest courses and certainly one of Tee Set’s most popular venues, Cengkareng. We will have our September Monthly Medal and the second round of the Eclectic Cycle XIII as well as our usual relaxed round of golf whilst being taken care of by the excellent team at Cengkareng so there are many good reasons to sign up and come along.
If you are able to join us please sign up here. First tee time is 12.oopm as usual and the green fee is Rp.875,000. Please note that Cengkareng have in place procedures to comply with social distancing requirements; these will apply both pre- & post round plus on the course and we are all expected to follow these whilst at the Club.
Reminder: For those who would prefer not to walk, in addition to the hover boards to glide across the rolling fairways, Cengkareng has available a limited number of golf carts. If you wish to reserve one please contact the Golf reservations staff at Cengkareng directly. As the carts are limited in number and we do not have visibility to those already booked on the day, your Tee Set Committee is not involved to the reservation of the carts
A flash back from the annals….
Wondering who playing in Tee Set 8 years ago as we went to Matoa for the first championships there? Your VP of Almost Everything has been cranking the handle on his old desktop and found this interesting ranking of Tee Set handicaps from September 2012. Tee Set Handicaps Sept 2012
An interesting snapshot of the Society 8 years ago and to see who has gone up and down since then… for those playing in Tee Set then you may have your memory jogged on some of your old sparing partners.
