Sunday 27th September 2020 Cengkareng

The Day

Round 2 of the Eclectic XIII and our Monthly Medal attracted 35 players to the excellent Cengkareng course with several players no doubt happy to get some extra rounds in on our Championship course for 2020. The course has got better and better over the last few months after a bout of heavy rains and it played hard and fast, especially on the greens which resulted in an unusually high number of putts from some of our regulars.

The weather was perfect all day and the semi-finalists in the match-play went out as a group to engage in their respective battles to reach the final. More of that below. Michael Mueller, fresh off his excellent round on Saturday to secure a Big DOG in the DOGS Eclectic competition was clearly happy to cruise the course on Sunday, failing to find himself anywhere on the results summary as a result as he basked in his moment.

No newcomers this week and no notable welcome backs as a glitch in our registrations saw the wrong Supachai initially entered as joining…. apologies for that. Many thanks to Craig Edwards and an injured VP Ric Wymer for taking care of all the administrative duties on the day.

The Play

An unusual face up for Monster Putter as Juju Juhaeriah had a rare off day with the flat stick whilst our Monkey winner was Jari Antikainen who just pipped 4 others tied one stroke behind. Skirts as usual saw a small troupe up for the photo with David Baglivo joined by Holger Molendyk and Indar Dhaliwal.

Most Improved was Timo Karonen and First Sandy went to Supachai Suesomboon whilst Dave Prosser was our First Birdie awardee. Mike Evangelista took home Low Putts after a count-back.

Low Gross went to Gurav Shirke whilst our Low Net winners were Santi Miller, Arnold Castillon and Grant Lutz.

In the monthly medal prizes, David Baglivo was our NTP and Santi Miller and Dave Prosser took home the Long Drive accolades. An excellent 41 points from Arnold Castillon, often a winning score, was however pipped by the 43 points returned by Mark Johnson who therefore secured the Monthly Medal for September.

Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here: Cengkareng 2709 Results

Tee Set Match-Play Championships

The semi-final stage of this year’s competition were held this Sunday. On one side of the brackets, Mark Johnson was playing 2 time winner David Baglivo and David showed his competitive streak falling 1 down to Mark who also succeeded him as the Monthly Medalist. In the other bracket, Arnold Castillon continued his fine form and defeated James Bristow 6&5.

Mark and Arnold move onto the final and we look forward to a tight match between these 2 stalwarts of this year’s Inter-League team.

New course, new day, new timing… is it time for a new President.? With the existing President reaching his 4th Championship at the head of the Society, we will be calling for new blood to step-up and take Tee Set forward. Next Up: Gading Raya Sunday 4th October 2020

Back to one of our favourite courses as we head out down the Tangerang-Merak toll to Gading Raya where we are well looked after. This Graham Marsh design is a nice but challenging parkland style course and we usually see some good scores returned as it offers plenty of scoring opportunities for those playing well. Equally, the strategically placed bunkers and gentle turns in the fairways can present a challenge for the unwary. With early tee times, we’ll be finished nice and early with plenty of time to enjoy the service and refreshments in the clubhouse afterwards.

Tee times off 1 & 10 at 11.30am have been confirmed along with the attractive pricing of Rp850,000 with carts. If you are able to join us please sign up here and we look forward to seeing all who can make it on Sunday.
