Blood Request: Thank you on behalf of Chris Whaley
A huge thank you to everyone who answered the call last week for blood donations, we had over 15 responses offering assistance and the support is much appreciated. The call was sent out by many of the golf groups here and it is heartwarming to see the community pulling together in an hour of need. Chris has since had a successful surgery and is recovering.
The Day
Sunday saw 33 Tee Setters turn-out to test their skills on the challenging Jagorawi layout. Everything was well prepared for the group with a mini-shot gun arranged so we could start not too late after the morning groups had finished so our main decision to make on the morning being whether to play the Old or New layout. After some discussion, the recent coring on the Old Course finalized our decision to tackle the New Course although having an Old Course score card did confuse a couple of groups for a little while…
Having gathered for the shot-gun start, we headed out to the assigned tee boxes just as the thunder clapped and the heavens opened. Fortunately, the rain did not last long and by the time most groups finished their opening holes it had given way to a fairly still, cloudy afternoon which brightened up as the day wore on. We were to finish fairly quickly and under sunny skies; the prize-giving was held on the terrace and several groups enjoyed a late finish as we relaxed after all the announcements and put the world to rights.
A warm welcome to Guillaume de Gantes who joined us for the first time and welcome back to Vanco Pop-Petrovski who was back after a couple of years away last week but as we did not have individual results, we picked it up this week instead.
Many thanks to VP Ric Wymer who conducted all the administration and announcements on the day and to Jens Roestel who managed all the card collection pending Ric’s finish on the course.
The Play
The slower than usual greens did not catch any errant putters so the Monster Putter went unawarded but there was a distinctive Germanic flavour to the skirt photo with Detlef Bluemke being joined by Jens Roestel and Philip Schaferdieck whilst Grant Lutz was our Most Strokes awardee. Most Improved went to Jari Antikainen whilst Jens was back in credit with his First Sandy prize.
First Birdie was secured by Malcolm Hines whilst we had a 3 way tie for Low Putts with Samret Raungret, Warut Waramit and Ronald Lim all being awarded the prize whilst Roger Finnie showed his recovery is on track securing Low Gross.
Our Low Net winners on the day were Bill Lloyd on a count-back from Riche Tiblani, Robert Watt and Philip Schaferdieck.
Congratulations to all our winners and detailed results are here: Jags 0811 Results
