The Day
Officially the last event of the Tee Set calendar for the current presidential year as the statistics for the Championships go into the next year and it was good to see a healthy turn-out of regulars join us for the day. We kicked off the day with the presentation of October’s Monthly Medal to Juju Juhairiah having finally got her, the shield and the medal all in one place. September’s winner, Mark Johnson was on hand to pass it over…. with the out-going president not armed with the Tee Set camera, no other shots of the day were taken but we are grateful one which was sent over for the post …
We arrived under sunny skies but sat at the first tee waiting our turn, the heavens opened and we were subjected to a heavy deluge and some thunder. Sensible precautions were taken by all and the course closed down for 40 minutes whilst the storm passed, following which we were able to get out and enjoy a relatively smooth round. Having got to the starter hut 20 minutes early, the delay did not affect our ability to be around well before dark and enjoy some refreshments as we dried off in the clubhouse afterwards.
Welcome backs to Patrick Wasler, Stefan Thiele and Manfred Borer… and a warm thank you to Mark Johnson and Bill Lloyd for their assistance with the administration and presentations on the day.
The Play
The softer greens after the rains ensured that we had no Monster Putter this week but this was more than made up by the 6 way tie for Most Strokes involving Dimitri Burge, Fred Papachristidis-Bove, Patrick Wasler, Stefan Thiele, Timo Karonen and Tom Grace. A modest return of 2 skirts also kept the Treasurer happy too, thanks to Detlef Bluemke and Philip Shaferdieck.
First Sandy went to Mark Johnson and First Birdie to Richard Mau whilst Roger Finnie had a shocking day tee to “not quite the green” and so cleaned up on Low Putts to complete the skills prizes of the day. Low Gross went to Dave Prosser.
Our Low Net winners were Andy Coop, Bill Lloyd and on a count-back from Vanco Pop-Petrovski, Philip Shaferdieck.
Congratulations to all our winners and thanks again to Gading Raya management for their arrangements on the day. Detailed results are here: Gading Raya results 2211
Tee Set Championships: Saturday this week not Sunday!
Despite many messages that we thought would have provided relative clarity including most recently, an email to all confirmed participants, that we had moved the Championships to Saturday this year, various players signed up for the event have been noted organizing their Saturday games for this week…. we trust its clear now – its on Saturday … also the event is full with a waiting list so if anyone does decide to make other arrangements or cannot play, please let us know asap by replying to the welcome mailer sent out yesterday.
Not to forget that for those missing a Sunday round at Matoa on the last Sunday of November, our friends from D.O.G.S will be having their weekly event the next day having kindly exchanged playing days with us this week to accommodate our arrangements. Your immediate past President will be out supporting them and would be pleased to see many Tee Setters doing the same.
