Sunday 25 April 2021, Monthly Medal, Cengkareng Golf Club

As we say each month, the day is normally all about the play on Monthly Medal day, and today was perhaps the strongest performance to par we have seen across a Tee Set field. Out of 39 players, five shot rounds of 40 points or over, and 15 shot 36 points (par) or better. Even the wildlife came out for a look….

This day – 25 April – was also very important to many of us as ANZAC Day, a recognition of fallen Australian and New Zealand soliders, and now Turkish soldiers, who fought and died in the Battle of Gallipoli. Bill respectfully recognised the day and toasted those who had served, including the Whispering President and sponsor of the Monthly Medal, Geoff, who served Australia in Vietnam and later in Indonesia, before starting Kojo.

Now, we would normally lead with a photo of the winner, no not Ric, but Bruce Smart, with 44 points. However, Bruce teed off with Roger in the first group at 11.15am – millionaires’ golf – and finished by 3.20pm, so took off early. Ric himself led the C graders in today with a strong 38 point showing, not enough to win anything but enough to show off the plaque with past winners – joined now by Bruce. Jeremy and Al followed Bruce in with very strong 41 point rounds; Al took off before awards but Jeremy was all smiles. Rav led the A graders in with 40 points, but was denied due to a minor stuff up and will get his cash and photo awarded next week.

Our newcomer to Tee Set but well known to many of us as DOGS Interleague Captain and Saturday regular, won Low Gross with a fine 74, great to welcome you on a Sunday, Gary. While we are at it, big welcome backs to Craig and Bobby after 21 and 20 weeks, Richard after 12 and the trifecta of William, Bruce and Robert who we hadn’t seen for 6 weeks a piece.

A special mention to Harry for his eagle on hole 5 and to Mark for first birdie. Matt scored the first sandy and Roger was his ever miserly 27 to win Low Putts. In the skill prizes, longest drive for men was won by Bobby with 261m and Juju with 188m and Zach had Nearest to the Pin at 2m, which he converted into his first ever birdie, well done Zach!!

For all scores, see here. In matchplay, Bill played to handicap but Juju was far hotter and won 4 and 3. Since then, Geoff played his match against 2018 champ Jens and won 5 and 3.

Now….to finish off…a harvest of 9 skirts – no wonder the Treasurer is smiling!!! And some big names among them…featured here in a collection of shots.

And on that note…to next week….
