Next Up: Rancamaya & Tee Set vs D.O.G.S.

With Tee Set’s regular scribe being unavailable at present its a pleasure to step in and help out to keep one’s hand in… however having not been at Permata Sentul for reasons most regulars will be aware of, a report on last Sunday will need to await for the availability of more informed scribes than myself to delight you all with what I am sure will be many interesting stories to recount…

As mentioned in last Friday’s post, we will be gathering from Friday this week at Rancamaya for what is always one the most enjoyable and competitive, in a friendly sort of a way, week-ends on our calendar. Most of those interested in partaking in the activities of the week-end have already expressed their interest and are now locked in but if you have not yet signed up and want assistance on the hotel or are joining on Saturday, its time to get off the fence and let us know in the next 24 hours via Mark Johnson as below so we can plan accordingly. Anybody coming for next Sunday only can sign up as usual here and in the comments section please let Captain Ric Wymer know your interest to represent Tee Set if you also wish to join the Juergen Degert Trophy Match being held in parallel to the regular events of the 2 Societies.

Most urgent are any room bookings which those staying one or more nights of the week-end at the R Hotel may wish plus the BBQ numbers as we will close our liaison with the hotel after Wednesday but you can still advise Mark regarding Saturday up to Friday. If you’ve not already done so, check out the details on the dedicated page on the website: https://teesetgolf.wordpress.com/rancamaya-weekend-2021/ and then contact asap Mark Johnson with the required information: (1) which nights you wish to stay (2) preferred room type (3) back up room type in case (2) is unavailable (4) golf Saturday or not and finally (5) BBQ Saturday or not and number of guests. Mark’s email address is mark@ecomatpro.com and his WhatsApp is 0811865301. No need to reconfirm if you are already organized unless plans have changed.

For those arriving Friday 7th May, there will be a casual pick-up game in the afternoon or rumor has it that JAWS are relocating their game to Rancamaya from the currently announced schedule of Sentul Highlands – check with one of their admins to confirm. Otherwise the schedule is free and easy with no formal arrangements.

Saturday 8th May: the fun begins… for those wishing to partake of the formal activities, we will be hosting a small charity tournament, Rp150k contribution to be paid to your organizers, Roger Finnie and Craig Edwards with the game fee paid to the club of Rp750k. Registration and tee off from around 11.30am but later is fine so long as you are finished before 5.45pm in time for the scoring and prize-giving which will start from 6pm. Prizes for low net 1st, 2nd and 3rd, low gross 1st & 2nd plus skill prizes for Long Drive and Near Pin will be awarded – selected from those who have submitted their cards before 6pm to the hosts for scoring purposes. A thank you to those who have stepped forward to support these including David Prosser/Celebrity Fitness, John Brown, Gary Danskin and your hosts for the day: if anyone would like to make some additional contributions we’ll add prizes to day accordingly. Excess funds raised from the event will be going to the Fiona Unity Foundation in support of Lombok’s Forgotten Children.

Whether you are joining the above or not, everyone staying overnight, brave enough to travel back and forth on the day or staying near-by are welcome to join the BBQ which will commence from 6pm in the club house – upper floor usually based on previous years but just follow the noise. Cost is Rp350k per head and thanks to Dan Javier/PT Delta and Geoff Thwaites/Kojo there will be some added extras to the BBQ and refreshments to kick off the evening …. at least until they run out and so you are all recommended to bring some refreshments of your own choosing to see the night out before retiring for Sunday’s main event.

Sunday 9th May: it starts to get serious… being the last round of the D.O.G.S. elcectic cycle at Rancamaya those in contention will be gearing up to make a last push for the Big Dog which will be awarded that evening along with the other prizes on offer for the day and the cycle. Tee Set too will be hosting its regular Sunday event and so everyone is invited to join either or both of these events – society fee of Rp100k before teeing off to each society however if you want to double your chances. Game fee of Rp750k to the club as usual. However the main event will be the annual match for the Juergen Degert Trophy and if you have not already informed Captain Ric Wymer of your interest and availability to represent Tee Set please do so asap at teeset.jakarta@gmail.com or in the comments box if you are signing up for Sunday only. He’ll greatly appreciate keen volunteers and knowing several, if not all of his 22 slots are filled as soon as possible.

Post round, pass your scorecard(s) to the respective scorer(s) before enjoying a well earned shower and refreshments at the club house. Prize presentations will follow for each Society and the award of the new Juergen Degert Trophy, the last one apparently not having survived the pandemic after most recently being seen partying at Riverside after last year’s event! Thereafter a relaxing trip back to Jakarta or further nights at Rancamaya as you may have arranged…. and thoughts of next year!

Tee Set to trial Mygolf2U

Following a review of various handicap system options available to Tee Set, we have decided to trial the Mygolf2U app which is already in use by a couple of the other Societies we interact with including D.O.G.S.. As with previous decisions regarding aligning handicaps with other societies, we are looking at an option which allows for the ease of update by the Society and/or the player for all rounds played, visibility of handicaps for our players and, as much as possible, eliminates the issue of multiple handicap locations for our players who also play in other groups as the scores are not automatically consolidated in one database. There are also a number of ancillary benefits in managing competitions on the app which are of interest to us should the trial be successful. Our trial will run from this week-end until the Tee Set Championships at which time, if successful, we will begin a full transition to the app and cease our current system once the license expires in December.

For those who are already using the app with D.O.G.S. or otherwise, there is nothing further required at this time other than to keep entering your scores directly into the app for all games played in and out of Tee Set. You will now already find the sign up for Tee Set events within the app and can join each Sunday this way or continue to use the website as before.

For those not using the app presently, please search mygolf2u via an app purchase site or your browser, download and install it then register your email and password to create your profile.

Once you open the app you will be able sign up for tournaments including Tee Set on the Tournaments tab and enter new scorecards under New Game (select golf venue, select courses/nines being played, check tee box and date then enter scores hole by hole).

If you have sufficient cards registered you can see your handicap under the system and also review all scorecard entered.

We encourage as many tee setters as possible to begin to do this but irrespective, we will be managing a transition process later in the year should we decide to follow this route. In the interim, our current handicap system will still be fully updated and so you are requested to continue to submit your scores to our secretary as presently.

It’s a trial so we do expect a few hiccups in the initial stage but if there are any questions please do not hesitate to contact Geoff Thwaites on 0811706237 or see any of our regulars who also play D.O.G.S. and are therefore quite familiar with the app already.
