Rumoured to be the oldest golf course in Jakarta it is also rumoured to have the oldest bath towels in Jakarta but that is under contention with several other golf clubs in Jakarta. Maybe we should run a poll on which golf club is getting the best use out of the towels and thus proving itself the most environmentally friendly golf club?
Anyway I digress back to the game that was. Sunday morning in Jakarta, TeeSetters awoke to a glorious day and a drive time of just 24 minutes from Kemang to JGC. Now Mr Google needs to know where the clubhouse at JGC is as he put a few of us into an earlier U-turn which meant a bit of extra driving. Point being on a Sunday morning you can be at JGC in under 30 minutes. Most golfers had arrived and were having a coffee and a chat, flights had been organised the previous day. A bit of advice here, if you wish to play with certain players make sure they are aware and Adhe is aware and the earlier you register the earlier your tee time will be.
We head to the tee boxes at 11.30 and were soon away. A lovely drive off the first tee box by returning TeeSetter, Michael Taylor, landed in the back of a truck heading to Surabaya. Slicing and hooking is not the done thing at JGC and hitting the ball straight brings rewards with the scorecard. The greens, whilst a bit quick, have fairly easy reads. Mr Mau proved that with just 23 taps of the flat stick for the day. The flights off tee box 1 whizzed around in about 3 hours 30 minutes and those off tee box 10 were a bit slower back in about 4 hours.
The group I was in were slowly worn down by the trees on either side of the fairways and the march to the 18th was a bit brutal for some of us with tricky shots out of the trees becoming more frequent as we lost rhythm (Ii never had any). On returning to the club house and getting stuck into the free 500 ml can of icy cold Anker the discussion of how this course presents a challenge commence,d and all seemed keen to get back and give it another go. Great price, close to town, and really cold beer makes for a great day of golf. A few golfers had to leave straight after the game. A prize of a free beer at next Sunday’s game to the first person, who didn’t play on Sunday, to guess who received the most free beer coupons. First correct answer in the TeeSetters Whatsapp Chat wins.

Rosita and Eli take advantage of the carts on one of Jakarta’s flattest courses.

New member Amit. Amit had a pretty good round at JGC and enjoyed the food as much as the golf by the looks of that plate. Hope to see you again soon.

New member Aryan adding a bit of youth to the gray haired warriors of TeeSet. Aryan also had a pretty useful score and if we could see him become regular he could be pretty useful in Sam Weston’s TeeSet Match Play Team.

Bruno and Vincent were the lucky winners of a 6-pack each of Anker, the nectar of the gods. They generously shared their winnings with the other TeeSetters. Thanks boys.

First birdie went to Michael Seabrook on the 7th. Miracles do happen. First Sandy to Roger Finnie on the 1st he gets a free ride next week at Pondok Cabe as was absent due to prior commitments.

Richard Mau takes low gross, low putts and the smile of the day. Well done!

Slamming Sami Kekonen takes the tin this week with the best Stableford. And maybe takes the lead in the Quarterly shield?
Next Week’s Game, Pondok Cabe 4 Club Challenge
Next week we venture to Pondok Cabe which is in excellent condition but the greens are hard and fast so make sure you bring some control in the 4 clubs you choose. Some people may feel that the 4 club concept is a bit difficult for them so if you are feeling not up to the challenge come along and have a regular game of golf we still love ya. Sign up via MyGolf2U as stated earlier, the earlier you sign the better the tee time. See you on Sunday.
Cheers
Michael Seabrook
