The Pondok Cabe 4 Club Challenge

We had 8 flights taking on the 4 club challenge at Pondok Cabe last Sunday. The President arrived at the golf club sans golf clubs having packed everything else into the car. The pressure of leadership is telling early in his term. A well organised Eli Seabrook soon had a Grab car winging the clubs to Pondok Cabe. Other TeeSetters were looking much more relaxed having a pre-game beer or coffee. The conversations generally revolved around what players were packing in their bags.

Bill Lloyd took the opportunity to get in a bit of practice with his 3 wood which would be his putter today. From what I observed he could use it everyday. It was good to see Robert Fleischmann back for his first round for a while. The number of Italians playing continues to grow which is great to see in this multicultural golfing society. Adhe had organised the flights and now it was up to the players to organise their mode of transport those on foot having no trouble but those in golf carts have to scrounge hard with the management to get a key to a cart. It is quite amusing to watch as golfers climb into a cart all loaded with clubs, ice box and caddies only to find they have no key.

The groups teed off nearly on time and the round was a bit slow with some non-teeset groups taking a fairly long time to get through the first 9 holes. So remember TeeSetters always keep an eye on speed of play we don’t want to be holding up those behind us. The group I was in started with some booming drives and a handy shank from me. As we made our way around the course we all had some handy moments but by the 5th or 6th hole the comments about club selection started to filter into the conversation. I was happy with my choice just not the execution at some crucial moments. The greens were rock hard and it was hard to get a ball to stick, on the 18th a high lobbed pitch came down and bounced off the green like it had landed on concrete. Once you had secured the ball on the greens they rolled pretty true with 6 players returning sub 30 putt rounds.

Back in the club house most players stayed for a few cleansing alse and to relive their fleeting moments of golfing excellence with the others. Dean Merriless has put his meaty paws on the Shield as he powered his way to 41 Stableford points and 10 shield points. After 7 rounds in the new season we have had 7 individual winners of the low net. Richard Mau was rather impressive with a handy 79 low gross with his 4 clubs. His other clubs are being listed on EBay as you obviously don’t need them if you can club a 79 with 4 clubs. We had 3 Italians and one of American Italian heritage all score 36 Stableford points. This could be a pretty handy 4 ball in the upcoming World Cup Event. Low putts went to David Baglivo, Jens Roestel took the first Sandy (get a free entry to TeeSet next game), first birdie went to Mr. Mau

Next week we are at the lovely Bumi Damai course in BSD are course not to be missed and the food is pretty good also. Make sure you sign up on MyGolf2U app ASAP. This helps organise flights. The earlier you sign up the more likely you will be in one of the earlier flights. Tee time is 12.45 so you can have a relaxing brunch before the game. Last light is 6.30 so plenty of time to get around. Once again keep an eye on your speed of play.

Upcoming events after BSD game is the Kojo monthly medal at Cengkareng. At this game we will be introducing the meat tray raffle a great opportunity to win a meat tray to the value of a Rp1.000.000 Buy a few raffle tickets to help support the yearly events we host at TeeSet. We have the Valentine Scramble on the second weekend in February. This is a two person Scramble if you have a golfing partner of the opposite sex please play with them or try and find one (not rent) or you can play as a same sex couple as this is the 21st Century. Great Prizes and other activities on this day which will be played at Pondok Cabe.

Dean gets the Tin Grin this week. Well done and moves into the lead in the Shield.
