The Taming of Gading Raya

TeeSetters took to Gading Raya last Sunday and gave the course a right royal spanking. Gading Raya is renovating the club house but this did not deter 48 TeeSetters from venturing out. After all TeeSetters are golfers not prima donnas that fuss about in the locker rooms before and after a round of golf. It’s down to the restaurant and load up on some golfing grub and grog and then onto the field of battle.

Well and truly did the lads and lassies of TeeSet charge onto the field of battle. Score cards had to be seen to be believed with 10 golfers breaking through the magical Stableford barrier of 40 points. Putts were being sunk from monster distances and we even had another Eagle to go back to back from last week. A few Matchplay games were decided also, with a cracking game needed from Patrick to gain a win over a valiant Bags. Hitoshi brought his A game to Gading and had too much firepower for the master of the cutdown putter, Jens. Sam, after a thrilling victory in the Asian Tiger 45 Hole Challenge on Friday, found a bit left in the tank to hold off a very competitive Alessandro. JP and Dean battled to a draw where a winner was decided on height. Well done Dean for being tall. Dan won with a walk over from the President to have back-to-back walkovers. He sends fear into his opponents hearts and a walkover is the easier option. Diarmuid with a strong win over a normally very competitive Arnold rounded out the weekend’s matchplays This brings The Matchplay winners to the pointy end of the season where those that have fallen by the wayside start watching results, and Hill’s Bookmakers are busy adjusting their odds as the pairings are revealed for the final two months of competition. Word is that Diarmuid has had leprechauns craft him a new set of irons. Whilst the smart money is awaiting the outcome of the next round battle between Hitoshi and Rosie. Rosie has been in sparkling form of recent time but the bushido spirit of Hitoshi always rises on the golfing battlefields. My money is on Patrick as the nicely priced outsider who has been getting the job done on some well fancied opponents. Stay tuned punters things are heating up in the kitchen.

40th ANNIVERSARY OF TEESET SCRAMBLE

So far we have 22 teams ready to do battle for the biggest Texas Scramble this side of the Pecos. Last year’s winners The Spin Dryers are back with one change to their team and are aiming at going back to back. A difficult ask having seen the teams they will be battling against. There is still a day left to get this extremely fun day of golf. And extremely fun days of golf can only be achieved with the help from our sponsors this year in San Miguel, Hot Hed, JS Luwansa & Asian Tigers. A big thanks to Dan Xavier, Bob Fleischman, Richard Mau and Bill Lloyd. Also the old stalwart, ex-president & TeeSets oldest player, Geoff Thwaites is getting a bit older on Sunday ,80, and has generously donated 6 bottles of wine to the lucky draw. That gives us 30 bottles to be won either by luck, skill, or playing in a good team. There are other prizes to be won also.

We have a 12.30 Tee off so be there bright and early to register, and Team Captains to pick up your score cards. Mulligans for Rp100k will be available on the day which entitle the holder to 3 free shots anywhere but the putting surface (the green). The Mulligans will also entitle the hold to a good flow of grog after the game. So buy a Mulligan from Adhe when registering.

There will be the famous Hot Hed Hot Dog Stand located between holes 10 &18 so make sure you keep your energy up by knocking back a dog. Beers on course can be bought at a very reasonable price at the canteens on each nine. Plenty of free beer will be available after the game. I suggest over-indulgence at all times. Food before and after the game will be ordered from the menu at your own expense. As there is a big mob be patient with delivery times and have a beer while you wait.

There will be a long drive hole with a twist, and the closest to the pin for both men and women.

The Club is doing some major renovations and the men’s change room has been relocated to the ladies and the ladies have been moved to the VIP area. Downside of this is that lockers maybe in short supply for the men, but having played there recently they do have a reasonable bag tag system in place. Once again be cool don’t be a fool and work with the system. Two showers only in the ladies section, but ample room. I might join the ranks of the soap dodgers for the event and just change my shirt. The President always comes up smelling of roses πŸ™‚

The green fees for the day are Rp800k for a shared cart or Rp700k for the walkers. Pondok Cabe is a lovely walking course. For the drivers of the carts be careful some carts have stopping issues and slightly dodgy steering so take it easy.

TeeSet fees for the day are Rp200k and buy a Mulligan for an extra Rp100K.

Enjoy the Day it will be a blast and make sure you argue with your captain, they always get upset.

Further updates will be made by Whatsapp.

Jakarta Interleague

The week after our Anniversary Scramble it’s back to the field of battle in the JIL matchplay. Please let Captain Dean know if you are available to play. Next week we start the assault on the championship so be part of the winning team.

The Winners

Slamming Sammy beat Gading Raya, and the rest of the field, into submission with 46 points.

Nicolas will start needing to declare his winnings to the taxman, low gross 75.

It’s not what you wear but what you do. And Ezra let his golf do the talking, great Eagle on the 6th.

First time Teeset player, first hole, first birdie. Well done Russ.

Low putts with the magical number of 26 was Hitoshi. Have a shave.

We look forward to you joining us again.

Finally

2 months and 9 days. What is the significance of that time period? That is the approximate date of the TeeSet Championship and we are looking for generous individuals or companies to help with some sponsorship of this blue ribbon marquee event. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party, It is not what TeeSet can do for you but what you can do for TeeSet. Sponsorship big or small is what makes this an unforgettable day of golf followed by a great after party and your efforts will be appreciated.

Cheerio seeya Sunday

Mr President (to you)
