Christmas Golf at Cengkerang

A large group of TeeSetters turned out at Cengkerang many in festive attire. It was touted as a fun day and for once it was at least not a hot day. Playing in the second last flight off the 1st it was great to see TeeSetter after Teesetter nailing decent drives off the 1st. Definitely a bit of talent in the group these days. We had two eagle shots on the first hole with Holger coming up short by one revolution of his golf ball and Ash making a great chip to narrowly miss the hole. Both made birdies and both lost their balls on the next hole.

Speaking of the next hole which happens to be the second hole an orange ball appeared on the far side of the green. There was no shout of fore. We continued putting and just as we finished Jane came over the hill from the 5th. How she managed to get her ball from somewhere on the 5th to the far side of the green on the second will be one of golf’s unsolved mysteries. Jane lifted her game and was amongst the days top Stableford points scorers as well as taking home a few Skins.

I played with Mark, Ash and Holger all big hitters off the tee and with an equally impressive array of fairway and bunker shots. Whilst they were chasing eagles, birdies and pars I was desperately trying to avoid double bogey, basically something I failed to do. What had started as reasonable round was reduced to being shambolic on the back nine. The other 3 went from strength to strength. It was a nice walk in the park still, and as Hitoshi pointed out at Xmas lunch yesterday, a bad day at the golf course is still better than the best day at the office.

Kevin Dobson had a life altering round with 3 birdies and racking up 46 Stableford points to be a head of the rest of the field by a country mile. He went on to pick up a couple of skins and won the blind pairings partnering with Jane Finnie. As mentioned earlier she also had a great day at the course. The top 10 finishers were split equal amongst the 2 recognised sexes. Siti also had a wonderful round and Michael Webb said it was his best round in months.

It was back to the club house where the frozen margaritas and beer followed freely for several hours before the still thirsty moved on to the B&V. A big thanks to Roger for organising the days format and prize giving, with a big hand to Rod for helping with the scoring. Well done guys.
