Imperial Karawaci Sunday May 19th 2024

TeeSet were joined by the DOGS on Sunday due to a comp preventing them from playing on the previous day. TeeSet was set up on the back verandah of the clubhouse overlooking the 18th green. Golfers were spread randomly across the room. Adhe strategically positioned to collect the fees of incoming golfers.

It was good to see the return of Sam Westen. Jens & Shinta were there after a brief US vacation. Axel was there enquiring mischievously about my health. Steve from the hash showed up as did the elder lady of hash Rosita. The room started to fill as the warm up wowsers returned from the driving range and the usual late golfers arrived. Yep you guessed it, Allesandro and Diarmuid, the two most likely golfers to be late to their own funerals.

Having a chat with John Brown and a couple of others we remarked that it looked like it was going to ba pretty hot Sunday on the course. John referring to his handheld device said it would steadily cool before becoming overcast at 4pm. John, pay for the subscription. After 2 holes down came the rain and we were forced to seek shelter from the deluge. The rain abated after 15 minutes and it was back to the task at hand.

Before we go on this weeks music theme. Hit the play button

Back to the game we had a shotgun start and away we went and a very good pace all day taking 4.30hrs not bad for a field of 56. I was in the same flight as Richard, Axel & Ian, and we were having a private matchplay hence the choice of the video above. It started fairly even, with the 26 handicapper landing his drive 5 or 10 metres in front of the single figure lads. A quick chat not to give too much away, saw on the next hole a well placed ball in the water. Ian and Axel were grinning. Par 5 I drive on to the cart path followed with an iron straight into the back of a tree, which was rectified by a nice rescue just shy of the green, Axel chips in for birdie, I putt for bogie, hole squared. Do the hustle.

Starting the back 9 our foes edged a head and the hunt was on.

The video was shot at the 11th tee box.

Axel and Ian nice drives down the middle of the fairway. Me, once again on the cart path, Richard in the tree line on the right. My second shot clips a tree, third shot lands short of the green. Ian fails to get his ball up the hill on the green and is looking at a long uphill putt for birdie, Richard in a similar position on the right of green. Axel nails his 3rd to within 4 or 5 foot of the hole. My 4th leaves a 6 foot+ uphill putt. In it goes, par beats Axel’s birdie. Everyone, let’s do The Hustle! The look on our opponents faces was priceless. I am now off their Xmas card list. But best of all they won’t be voting me to continue as President, no more 4 more years from these two.

The match swung to and fro a magical shot out of the rough by Richard saw us extend the led to 2 with 3 to play. A sandy par on the 17th from the deepest bunker on the course saw Sandbagger Seabrook with Ever Steady Mau taking the chocolates with 3 up 2 to play. Yes I am a crap golfer but I do have a few moments from time to time.

Prizes

Only a few today as DOGS were handing out a bunch also and there was valuable drinking time being wasted if presentations took too long.

Our man Daniel, stalwart of the Matchplay Team takes low nett with a pretty handy 67

Ian on #3 takes the first birdie money. Well done.

Here’s a picture of the President with all of his friends. First Sandy on #8

That’s it for prizes this week read the DOGS blog for other winners. I know we had TeeSet Sam taking the low Gross and R. Mau a close second.

Last week at JIL

TeeSet got pumped by Jaws. The only good news is that Daniel Park remains undefeated as does our pair of Seabrook/Ure. We expect better things next month with both Captain & Vice Captain back in town. Still plenty of time to climb the ladder to success. Gremilins in WordPress failed to launch last weeks report.
