The World Cup of Golf at Jags New

Well, this picture may not look like a cup but this was what we were playing for. San Mig the great brew from the Phillipines now available here alongside the great old classic Anker. TeeSet is very thankful for the sponsorship provide by Dan and his team at PT Delta Djakarta Tbk. Also sponsoring the event was Dean Merrilees a big thank you for that also.

We had a full field of 24 teams a nd speed of play was important. The Kilted Warriors disappeared into the distance first off the 10th and were home just on 4 hours. The rest took their time, particularly the Napoleonians who disappeared into the background after 1 hole behind the Melburnians. A little bit of rough weather saw a short delay for any team on the course after 4.10pm. Most importantly all were finished before dark and now it was up to the scoring Maestro to do his magic. Thanks everyone who sent me their score cards they went no further, as I was busy looking for my balls. Following instructions is not a strong suit of TeeSetters, we are social golfers and things just miraculously get organised by the Golf Fairy.

Rather than me waffling along about all the trials and tribulations that the teams experienced on the field, shopping trips, slips, thins, fats, clunks, birdies and eagles let’s just enjoy photos from the day and some smart arse comments where appropriate.

The Low Net champions. I am pretty sure Bill snuck all the beer into his bag and headed for the door leaving teammates empty handed. Well done on the Net 201, Richard, Bill, Mark and David.

Equal second place net goes to the Canadian Avro Arrows, most who pre-dated the Avro Arrow by a decade or two but have outlasted it. Then we have the team of dubious backgrounds, Invicta. Now those of you with a Latin language background will realise that invicta is a feminine singular noun.

Well done to the mob from AA; Andrew, Tom, Robbie & Craig. Thumbs up to the team of Invicta; Jude, Diarmuid, Patrick & Alessandro, well done girls.

Low Gross winners were the Red & White team, a scoring glitch meant that they missed out on a prize but we were lucky enough to get a team photo of them earlier, well done boys with a pretty handsome 236 off the stick. Pin Up boys for Weight Watchers International. We are saving up for your prize be there this Sunday to get it.

Early winners but knocked off when the machine kicked out the right info on Monday morning. Well done to Eric, Olivier, Nicolas & Antoine on second place

The luckiest lads the boys from Nations United. There was no prize for 3rd place gross but on the night they were second and these guys did Asia Pacific proud. Viboon, Gavin, John and an absent Daniel.

Jon from Aussie Crawl nails one down the middle for a 300 metre drive. Well done. You can never have enough sprinkler heads to bounce off on a fairway. This must have happened early in play as the boys from AC were a bit unruly when spotted latter on the course.

Andrew will be taking this to his next AA reunion. A Nice Aussie wine for nearest the pin. 60cm which is about 2 foot in the old imperial measurements, when the Brits still had an empire, all they have now is a antiquated system of weights and measurements. I digress, well done Andrew.

Kayla takes Ladies long drive 270 metres and nearest the pin 70cm. Later on to add to her prizes a carton of San Mig. On Friday it was a flight to Bali win. Party on Kayla.

Best Dressed Team

Best dressed team went to the Nelis who should have stayed in the kitchen.

More photos can be seen here

Things were buzzing in the clubhouse pre game.

The Aussie Battlers getting their first beer order in. It wasn’t their last.

The most romantic team Suamistri

The Japanese/Indonesian team looking more Japanese.

The dour Brits, not very photogenic is about all I have to say.

The Jockindos who went very close to best dressed and so much more photogenic than the lads above.

The ladies of TeeSet, less a few who missed this photo.

On the putting juice.

Yep, still dour.

These duffers missed their tram, their fairways, their putts and their mushrooms. A soulless performance.

Gavin nails an eagle to keep the Nations United in it. Cracking achievement.

The final Standings

Well that ends The World Cup roundup. You can click on the link above for more photos. A special thanks for Roger for organising the teams, handicaps and scoring. Social golf is only successful with blokes like him. Thanks for the Singing President for helping with the lucky draws.

A special thanks to all the special people who asked me during the lucky draw what were they winning a bottle for. Yes you are very special. Lastly a special thanks for all the golfers who made the day such a great success. We look forward to seeing you next Sunday.
