The Gang of Four

TeeSetters have been giving the pins on the Par 3s a bit of a pounding over the last few months. Cucu was first past the post this season followed by Geoff with Ian picking one up at last Sunday’s monthly medal and finally, John popped one in earlier this week. Many other TeeSetters have nailed a hole in one and there is an elite section that have more than one. No jealousy from me just plain and simple envy.

The comments that flowed as these successes were posted in the TeeSet Whatsapp group shows what a great group of golfers that play with TeeSet. Golf is generally an individual sport and each day on the course we are striving to do better individually and those birdies, pars and rescues keep us coming back. The one thing that we all enjoy as golfers is watching other people having a magical moment on a golf course. These can be skimming a ball to dry land, successfully navigating the Tiger Line, a sandy par, a chip in birdie, or in Bill Lloyds case an in flight birdie. They make us all happy and it is a great conversation maker back in the club House over a few Adult Beverages. They bring us closer together as we share these events as eye witnesses or recounting the story. The reason for Social Golf.

On a different note we farewell one of TeeSets more frequent golfers with Diarmuid moving onto greener pastures. Over the years since he joined TeeSet i have kept an eye on him for various non-sexual reasons. Firstly it was his name Diarmuid. I dread a conversation as I had no idea how to pronounce that so for the first few encounters it was the ever safe greeting by using Mate. Eventually I knew this couldn’t last but what to do. Mr Google can help with everything, except my golf swing, so I was saved by this https://youtu.be/yoJSNmfsP6g. This allowed communication on a more civil level. Diarmuid started out with a handicap larger than the President’s but with consistent swearing was able to bring down to below 20 along the way picking up a voucher for most improved. As I took the mantle of leadership on there were a few incidents on the golf course where it seemed he was intent on doing the President harm. As his game improved and me having Adhe move him to safer locations on the golf course I could relax, much to Diarmuid’s frustration. Diarmuid was also a very competitive Matchplay golfer having come 2nd in a very close TeeSet final with his good mate Patrick, golf was a winner that day. It was always great to catch up with him and his work colleagues after the game for some friendly banter. I had him down as Presidential material now he is a ship leaving port. Safe travels Diarmuid.
