Once again TeeSetters were treated to perfect weather. There was a light cloud cover and temperatures were perfect all day long with a nice afternoon breeze arriving on the back 9. We had pretty much a full complement of golfers with 43 registered. There was a fair bit of jockeying around as the groups changed frequently in the morning. Right up until the last minute. To make life easier going forward please let Adhe know who you wish to play with the day before and make sure they want to play with you. If you are doing last minute switches expect to be disappointed. No one likes being booted from a group so someone else can form their preferred group at 10.45 on a Sunday morning. 95% of people are registered by Friday so you can contact those people to ensure they want to be in your group, otherwise just leave it be. It’s a good way to meet other TeeSetters.
Also the earlier registered people will be given the earlier tee times. All players are expected to ensure they are playing a reasonable pace of play. If you cannot see the 4 ball in front of you and the 4 ball behind you is always waiting while you putt out, that is a fairly good indicator that your group is going too slow. Matchplay can sometimes cause this and that, to a degree, is understable but angsting over putts whilst playing wolfman is not a reason to be slowing play down. Just using wolfman as an example here only. Speed of play on Sunday was near on perfect and we only lost a bit of time when Gading management slipped a couple of flights in on the back 9, which did little besides temporarily ruffle a few feathers. Once back on the course things moved nicely. Also if there is a sudden appearance of a 3 ball due to cancellation expect that 3 ball to move ahead of your 4 ball. It may mean you are now the last group but you should understand why. This was not done to upset anyone just the most efficient way to play golf.
There, housekeeping done. What happened on Sunday of note? Weather has been mentioned, what else? There were a couple of TeeSet matchplays being held and the low handicappers held sway over the high handicappers on this occasion. Although there were some chances offered. Axel first shot of the day looked like it had sailed OB and his provisional was a bit rough. Luckily he was not OB and managed a half. A few holes later and he is hitting the ball at right angles and where it went no one knows. This allowed the President with a free shot on every hole to sneak a head. Got to the turn one up and then Axel slowly ground the President to dust with some good matchplay golf and a cracking shot on the 4th last to half snuff out any chances of a revival. Axel prevailed 2/0. Simone and Tom were in the other matchplay and hit the halfway mark all square. Now Tom has his days they are either good days or bad days not usually a bit of both. Unfortunately for Tom his second 9 was strangely off and the younger and more fashionable Simone prevailed 4&3. That was a case of the Europeans kicking the might of the British Commonwealth into the gutter. We’ll be back. Well done to Axel and Simone who take the next step towards glory.
Some other interesting things, a reasonable low handicapper in Fernando had a rather enjoyable round picking up 46 Stableford points, getting 36 is par so this is basically picking up pars on every hole nearly where he had a stroke plus paring most. Well 10 pars and 4 birdies for a gross 74 goes part way in explaining this phenomenal effort. I bet Pocksia Captain Nico is over the moon with this form and new handicap leading into next Sunday’s interleague showdown. Speaking of Nico he and Rod, visiting from the DOGS, had a pleasant day beating up on Renny and Eli in their own private matchplay. Rod had a cracking first 9 before fading a bit on the final 9. This, on the back of winning the little doggie on the Saturday. A good weekend’s golfing. Sorry I was on the wagon but would have stayed for a few otherwise.
The feat of the day was Graham Sutcliffe on the 6th index 18 par 4, where off the tee he popped a drive straight down the middle for 300 metres to finish up a tad over a metre from the hole. A nervous tap in saw him take a nice eagle. Graham told me in confidentiality what had happened on the previous hole and how he needed an eagle to ensure breaking 50 on the last 9 of the day. I am pretty sure I haven’t let the cat out of the bag. We had 8 players shoot 40 or better Stableford points for a total of 16 players to shoot 36 or better. Well done TeeSetters, great golf in glorious conditions.
The low point of the day was an occurrence in the Men’s locker room. I am not sure that what I am about to describe is suitable for some of our readers. So if you are of a squeamish nature and have had a sheltered upbring I would suggest you stop here and head to the highlighted winners section below. You have been warned. Now what happens in the locker room normally stays in the locker room and there I was on this eventful Sunday afternoon having a chat and a laugh about how Americans call an Albatross a double eagle, this coming off the back of Graham’s eagle. Craig Pendek described that drive as the best he had ever seen at TeeSet or a golf course anywhere. I saw it also and it was special. With a smile on my dial from the mention of double eagles I headed towards the shower. On the way to the shower you pass the hand basins where you can grab some skin lotion or dry your hair. Lo’ and behold there stood the pride of Japan in all of nature’s glory giving the nether regions a good old blow with the blow dryer. Who do you report this to? The locker room boss? The manager? Craig Pendek? Anyways I reported it here and it was a sight that I can now not unsee. Be warned, they walk among us the ball bag blowers. The horror, the horror! I bet no one skipped this and went to the winners.
To the winners

Fernando with a smashing 46 points on his local course, takes the lollies this week.

Nicolas with a gross 75 hit the JACKPOT last Sunday.

The man of the moment, with an exocet off the 6th tee box for an eagle, I give you Mr. Graham Sutcliffe.

Rosie with the first birdie on the 13th. Well done on a good round.

Having celebrated his sweet 16th birthday a few days prior, more good things befell Bags, with low putts 28, on what were very slow greens, made harder by playing in the noisiest group on the planet.

Anna with her family, Goran and Emil.

New TeeSetter David Stewart, just getting back into the swing of things after a few years off. Hope to see you soon.
Year Book
To keep the memories of your time playing with TeeSet we have decided to produce a year book. There will some of the beeter weekly write ups in it but it is your memories that we want. So take some time over the next few months to record some of these and hopefully we can use in the book. These maybe photos with a story, just a photo, or an amusing golf story that you heard or may have involved one of your playing partners. The book will also contain reports from the Interleague, birthday bash, Valentine Scramble and others as well as an honour board and a memorial section.
This is the time where a small contribution would be greatly appreciated by your Committee. Send to mcpseabrook@gmail.com. We are also looking for advertisers (won’t be expensive but the package will be good). If your company sees an opportunity to take advantage of the excellent database we have let us know. Retail, insurance, hospitality, sporting goods, alcohol, are amongst areas we could see potential advertisers come from. It will be an exclusive few so you will get excellent bang for your buck via the yearbook and new website. Also, we are looking at redoing the website to bring it into the AI Age. If anyone has a good cheap contact please let me know.
Birthday Scramble
The scramble will be held on the 8th of September at Pondok Cabe. Now is the time to start forming your teams. We will soon put it in the Whatsapp group for teams to register. Great fun, great novelty holes, great music, great camaraderie. Don’t miss it.
