AS the sun set over Rancamaya Clubhouse on Sunday evenings the kiddies in the Sawangan Orphanage were a little bit better off as TeeSet hosted their annual charity scramble with DOGS. It was a glorious golfing weekend with nearly 100 golfers taking part over the 2 days.

The first day was the matchplay game against DOGS. With 5 weeks of practising on the course in the rain it was going to be a challenge for TeeSet to retain the Trophy (trophy currently lost), as TeeSet golfers never have their game interrupted by rain. 12 pairs went out to do battle and before a ball was struck in anger TeeSet was facing an uphill battle with Vijay a late withdrawal due to a nasty flu that he couldn’t shake off. This left Daniel Park to take on a two balled Dog alone. He ran them hard like a true TeeSetter going down on the final hole. A truly heroic TeeSet effort.

The margin was 16-8 in favour of the DOGS but this margin belies how close the match actually was. Our number one pair squared their game against a DOGS twosome who finished in the top 4 for the DOGS Rancamaya series. Well done Jaakko & Sami, the fearless Finns. Tom, Cucu, Viboon, Steve Bagus & Trisna all played very close matches to come oh so close to a win. A battling half went to Dean “New Knee” Merrilees and Sari. A great battle by Roberto & Alessandro saw them emerge victorious over a highly fancied DOGS pairing. Patrick and Craig had a saw-saw battle against Shinta & Jens but held them off for a 3&2 win. Dougie & Michael made light work of their match against the ladies with a 5&4 win. Paul & Bill individually had a good day on the track but didn’t manage to spread it across the course. A little too often they both won the same hole, if you know what I mean. Indar & Bobby well what can I say, best I say nothing. A great day overall and a great night with live music and dancing late into the night, a well hosted event.

As a side note the Buffet was a bit dodgy with a lot of complaints about lack of food and undercooked sausages. Next year the organisers will need to keep an eye on the kitchen.

The weekend’s golf doesn’t finish there with Sunday being the Scramble. This year it was a Vegas Scramble and 9 teams took part. With most having to shake off a bit of a hangover before tee-off time. Never rains on TeeSet Sunday.

Monthly Medal Cengkareng this Sunday

Sign up for the monthly medal this Sunday on the last weekend of quiet golf courses and very quiet roads. A great opportunity for the Sentul Swingers to come and play Cengkareng 40 minutes door to door. Rainy season is behind us and the ball is rolling out come and battle for the Medal. MyGolf2U is where you sign up. Happy Hour Beers and Margaritas after the round to help you cool down. A long cool down is important.

Jarkarta Interleague Matchplay

The league starts soon and we have a strong squad Captain Dean will be calling a team meeting in the week before the first round on the 13th of April. In the weeks before it will be a good time for players on the list to get a few TeeSet rounds in so the Captain can have a look at what he has available. So sign up for the next 2 rounds.

Something New

With the monthly medal being the premier monthly event on the Jakarta social golfing circuit we have decided to make it even more prestigious. The weekend before the Club Championship there will be a special event to sort out who is TeeSet’s best Nett player and Best Gross player ( grossest?)

On that day in November all of the years medalists will do battle to see who reigns supreme and takes home the Trophy. Trump has said it is the bestest trophy ever. The Low Gross on each Monthly Medal day will also compete against the grossest golfers for a Low Gross champ. Another reason to sign up for this week’s Kojo Monthly Medal

Bandung Bash

This great event played over the Easter weekend at Giri Gahana Golf Course is a must play at least once in your Jakarta golfing career. A 2 day comp with some lovely trophies. The event culminates on Saturday night with a fancy dress party with live music. Get your golfing buddies together to join this event.
