A Glorious Day at Pondok Cabe

Why has the oil company logo been posted is the question that many TeeSetters are asking themselves as they view this weekly review of the activities of the Glorious TeeSetters. Well the answer is simple Pondok Cabe is owned by them and we need to take this moment to appreciate what they have been doing to PC since the days of the Covid Pandemic. It truly has come along way. They have good sand in most bunkers the tee boxes have all been re-done and the fairways are next on the list it seems. The best thing about the course is the state of the greens absolutely spot on. After having played TeeSet courses over the last 6 weeks or so these are by far the best prepared greens. Some of them are easy reads others leave you open to caddy wisdom as to the speed and break required to get to the hole. There was mention that the price has gone up a bit here but for the effort the club is putting into the course it has deservedly gone up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pertamina#:~:text=It%20was%20created%20in%20August,Ltd.%20and%20Chevron%20Pacific%20Indonesia.

Now on to the day. A small group of players joined a day that presented itself gloriously to the TeeSet golfers. Starting from both 1 and 10 6 flights head out. With Andy and Daniel in a matchplay in the sudden death section. My group was last off and it was with great difficulty that I hit the ball from the tee as a 2.30 am bedtime left me feeling wobbly and in the need of something to stiffen the spine. I was joined by Patrick, Jochen and Axel. The two smokers took to foot whereas the non-smokers needed a car to carry them through the day.

After the tee shot which landed miraculously in the middle of the fairway, the next shot sent that ball somewhere where it was never to be seen again. Great it was going to be one of those days, but with each step I inched closer to sobriety. It was a quiet day on the course and we moved quickly, struggling to keep up with the group in front but outpacing the group behind. This would be one of the quickest rounds for quite some time with TeeSet and itt may have been the quickest ever. Until we hit the 18th, Jochen looking for a ball, me hitting all the trees down the right hand side of the fairway, whilst Patrick and Axel watched amusedly from that preferred lie known as the middle of the fairway. We still managed to get to the green on pace for a record time as the clock ticked towards 4pm. Jochen and Patrick putt out leaving myself and Axel to putt to break this record. Axel first lines up his putt for a sandy par about 3 metres from the hole +/-. A bit down hill but not too much. He strikes, the ball is away. I take this moment to light up a smoke. Jochen walks over to the cart to get a beer and is back in time as the ball completes its second revolution. The storm clouds move close, the afternoon prayer starts and finishes as the ball is now less than a metre from the hole it is on line but is there enough petrol in the tank to get it there? With centimetres to go it breaks slightly to the left and is missing the hole. Then it straightens and with Jochen now on his second can and Patrick asleep on his feet, the ball in its death throes rolls to the right and gently lands in the hole. The length of time it took you to read this is will give you an idea on how fast that ball wasn’t moving. Anyways a sandy par to Axel and a putt that may have given him nearly as much joy as those two aces at Riverside.

Let’s get to the winners

JP found that 36 Stableford points was enough to take home the money. You read my excuse what about you others? Well done JP

Carter gets his weekly pocket money with a low gross 78. Inching higher and inching towards a lower handicap. Well done.

First bird goes to Jens on the 4th hole.

Rosie tamed the greens with 25 putts,

A few of us stayed late for some wine and beers, as axel should have then we would’ve had a sandy par winner.

JIL at Riverside
