Next Up 4 Club Challenge at Pondok Cabe

If you were lucky enough to get a morning round in at Gading last Sunday this what the caddies told me it looked like. By the time TeeSet arrived the rain was but a distant memory and we were left with mud swamps and fast greens. The fairways were being sliced up as every club touching the grass was producing a divot the ground was so soft. My group battled along, cursing the conditions and the slow moving group in front of us. The end could not come quick enough but to add to our misery the Starter slipped a 4 ball of beginners from Korea in front of us on the swing home. Frustrations and duffed shots grew and relief was found at the refreshment kiosks in the form of Bintang and Bali Hai. A lot needed to be consumed to numb the pain, unfortunately we ran out of holes before the full affect could take hold.

Others had a similar story, but to the surprise of some, a couple of wet trackers came to the fore and mastered the course. I quietly cursed those lucky bastards who mastered the swampy fairways. Lift clean and place was the rule but place where? The nearest non-rain affected area was normally the rough . Oh Gading a course I love, oh how you let me down today. I should have stayed at home and watched Rambo, which would have been more enjoyable than the days golf.

At least we had the required number of golfers to get the GR discount and truth be told I was probably the only grizzling bastard on the course. They don’t call me ” Fairweather Seabrook” for nothing. Bring on the fairweather.

The Day’s Champs

TeeSet’s own Swamp Fox, Michael, picked up a lazy 49 Stableford points for what is probably a club record. Great effort!

Another who likes the ground loose under foot is Tony, a terrific gross of 76. I bet he thought conditions were ideal.

A sandy birdie for Arnold on the 10th. Well done Skipper.

New member Paul grabs some loot with a birdie on 17.

Stan mastered the surprisingly fast greens with 31 taps of the flat stick
