TeeSet Takes it to Headquarters

The good comments were rolling off the TeeSet golfer even before the round had started. Less than 20 minutes from Kemang, less than 40 minutes from BSD, change out of Rp600k, an early tee off. Bang, golf doesn’t get much better than this. The various flights headed to their starting boxes and we were away. Read on if you dare to see how the author fared.

Some may have noticed that things have been a tad wet around Jakarta since late last year. These observant types were present last Sunday. Those that believe we are on the eve of a flood of biblical proportions were not missed. For as sure as the sun rises in the East and sets in the westit never rains on TeeSet Sunday, GLORIOUS.

Now it may not have rained that afternoon, but it had rained in previous time slots and the course was slightly affected. Golf is a challenge and missing games like Sunday’s means you are missing the variety that the gameof golf offers.

This sporty photo of Stan and his caddy selecting the correct club to play on the immaculate looking fairway is slightly deceiving. Look closer readers, look where golfers fear to go, look below the trees. There you will see a pond, in some cases it was more lake like, and on a few occassions on the back 9 it extended onto the fairway. There was one hole where our flight saw two schools of fish swimming through a fairway culvat, that would normally be dry. We hoped they never found it to the creek just outside the course. They probably made nice eating for the local biawek. Anyways it was a calming sight.

The course is a bit tighter than most courses we play and had more dog legs than you could poke a stick at. The sound of ball off timber was frequent the sound of Mister Mister cussing was loud. The fortunate thing was that many of those trees were forgiving with balls miracously returning to the fairway. In several cases they improved distance as well. The back 9 greens started fast and the back 9 were a tad slow, as per most Jakarta courses the rain has not helped their up keep but they were better than some I have seen this year.

A green side bunker shot, courtersy of Mike Mueller. This one was fuller than most but not the deepest. The course design includes some greens protected by permanent water. A much more fitting punishment for the golfer who in fear tops the ball to a watery grave as oppossed to flipping it out of the bunker for a Sandy Par.

Vijay tapped a bit of wood during the day but managed to not lose a ball albeit his caddy had to wade into a pretty deep seasonal pond to retreive the ball.

Axel hit the apex tree on his way to a fairly solid round, where for but a few lipped out putts it would have been a very nice round. Thanks for the beers. Dean came in looking frustrated but that frustrated look reminded me of the look of a slightly disappointing round. The look on my face is too hard to describe but a mixture of anger, frustration and that of a person who should be playing another sport may give you an idea.

A foursome who enjoyed more than most were Bill, Peter, Divya & Harvey who manager to complete their round nearly 2 hours after evryone else had finished. There was talk that they had been detained by the Military Police. Turns out they were just wallowing in the joys of Cilangkap. A great challenging course that we all hope to return to sooner rather than later and dry conditions may offer a different perspective of the course.

This was the first round of the Heritage Cup/Challenge. The player to amass the most Stableford points during the 6 round event will win a great prize (men/women)

Mens Top 3 Women Top 3

Michael Mueller 32 Shinta Sari 31

Daniel Park 31 Sri Solfrank 30

Schmitt/Lloyd 30 Nanin Provance 29

The rest of the field are staggered all the way back to 18 points holding up the table. You’re welcome.
