We have a word at TeeSet that is not over used and that word is Glorious. And last Sunday at Riverside indeed it was. 27 golfers were treated to a course in great condition. Something many of us have not seen since the start of 2026. There had been no rain for a few days and the course benefitted from a respite from the torrential storms that have been lashing golfer courses across the greater metropolitan region of Jakarta, sometimes refered to as Jabobeka. There’s a sentence that will help me get the required 1500 words done in next to no time. Now back to the day.
Rules of the Jambalaya were clearly explained by our Jambalaya expert Buckwheat Ewers, who is one of Jakarta’s most famous Zydeco washboard players and fairly handy around a golf course. His explanation was slightly better than Mister Mister’s eplanation to some members of the TeeSet Committee which caused irreprable brain damage to some of them as thay tried to digest the dribble presented to them. Not enough moonshine had been consumed at that point of the evening for it to be trnalated from gibberish.
With groups now knowing how to Jambalaya off we went. Brillant sunshine, run on the fairways and no pools of water or swampy areas, glorious. Three flights off Tee Box 1 and four off Tee Box 10. At Tee Box 2 our cart karked it, which led to an angry 4 ball barging past complaining of slow play at the 4th. Please and thank you go a long way in a civil society. Our caddies were quickly onboard with the rotation system which allowed me to concentrate on the scoring and the temperature of my amber hydration fluids.
A ten minute rain break allowed golfers to discuss the latest world topics dominating the news and all agreed that more time spent on tanker movements in the Strait of Hormuz was time better spent than reports on European Soccer (football for the uneducated). Golfers off the first 9 moved at a faster pace than those off the back 9 and the proof that fast play is the best way was displayed in the days results,
Speaking of which lets get down to the days winners,

Rosie back in the winners’ circle with a strong win inthe Ladies Section

Thomas, carried some low handicap golfers on his way to a storming win in the Men’s Section
A big thanks to Axel for the donation of the prizes. Below is a photo of the 5 club challenge winners from a few weeks back. The booze had gone missing.

Rosie and Arnie 5 club winners
Some new faces to TeeSet in the photo below. Good to see them getting stuck into some Apres Golf beers.

Tanjil was offered by the club which many happily took part in but I preferred to chat with my old mate Roberto. The last surviving member of the ENI group of golfers who started playing 4 years back. Roberto ovr the years dropped his handicap by 5 or 6 shots and became quite the competative player. He one a couple of monthly medals and was part of the TeeSet team win over DOGS in the Rancamaya game. His most notable win was in the inaugral Krakatoa Cup, best Stableford total over two days. A victory that was hampered by a stray Korean ball to the head with 5 holes to play. Roberto said it left him spinning but manged 4 pars over the last 5 holes to march to victory. Next time you hear FORE don’t duck or shy away take it on the noggin and do a Roberto. Roberto said it is hard to find such agreat enviroment to play golf in as what you find in Jakarta and also what a welcoming society as golfing with TeeSet and DOGS provided during his tenure. Happy trail Roberto it was a pleasure to golf with you and your friendship will always be remembered, we hope to see you soon. Bring the ENI mob back for a visit.
