Due to an extreme low level in tech skills, whether with computers, car engines or changing light bulbs the writer of this post must point out that the reason for the two societies’ logos not being next to each other is due to the aforementioned levels of incompetence.
Anyway most of you knew of the writers extremely low levels of skills whether in social company or on the golf course, so adding this to my list I am sure will not diminish me any further in your eyes. But today’s write up is not about skill levels it’s about last Sunday’s adventures at Pondok Cabe Golf and Country Club.
The reason why D.O.G.S. and TeeSet were playing together was for a very noble reason. The departure of Sami, the big hitting, beer drinking Finn, heading off to sandier fields. A great field of 63 golfers gathered as there were whispers that there maybe a few free ones at the end of the round. With such vast numbers the D.O.G.S. were able to arrange a shotgun start. At 11.50 golfers made their way to find their equipment and head to the starting points. Luckily I was on foot and had a short 900 metre walk in the midday humidity to reach hole 16 ( readers may remember what happened last time I started here, wide)
The game for us promptly started at 12.10, 5 minutes ahead of schedule but hey. Myself and Santi on foot, Dean and Patrick in the ambulance. This was the 3rd day in a row for Dean and myself on the golf course with the usual adult beverages aiding the recovery but as we saw with Adolf it was one Russian winter too many and for the Allies a bridge too far this was a game too many. Consistently inconsistent was what happened and it affected to a lesser extent out playing partners rounds. When you get to our age a couch is probably a wiser choice, but when did wisdom ever get in the way of good club selection or ordering another for the road? Its full steam over the cliff for the boys of TeeSet. Roger was another who was feeling a bit weary after also enduring 3 days on the hoof spanking whitey.
The D.O.G.S. put on an excellent day with a few novelty holes for golfers to test their skills/luck. It was great to see on the 11th Slamming Sami’s name on the long drive flag. The only two players to get their name on a nearest the pin hole were the Presidents of the two groups, showing they are a cut above most of the field. The weather was friendly but very humid at the start, and some of those riding in carts were showing a bit of wear and tear after 9 holes. By 2 O’clock the humidity dropped as did the temp so a lovely round. Most players took a tad over 4 hours to get around, some moved slower. By the time I strolled back to the clubhouse there were a few golfers on the singing syrup already, and the bath house was pretty full. Ablutions done and into the fray. It was noisy but the well oiled hospitality crew at Cabe were working well. Sami had taken up a position mid table and was offering a range of spirits and mixers to all takers. The chat once again was how improved this course is now and with further improvements scheduled will just get better. There were a few disappointed golfers who failed to play to their ability but most had a pretty good round. Axel, Hitoshi, Nic and Axel’s mate Dean teamed up for a bit of a match play with the Axel Dean combo being dominate on the day. Walking out of the clubhouse a few hours later, Dean remarked to me that he had never had so much fun after golf or been so warmly welcomed. A true measure of what both Societies strive to achieve each weekend.
Rod did a wonderful job getting the scores in order and Kevin did a great job in handing out the booty to the winners you can check the D.O.G.S. newsletter for the results and photos. John was in good form overseeing a well run event and it shows that there is a good level of respect between D.O.G.S. & TeeSet.

A bit of poetry from TeeSet
You’re leaving Jakarta, you silly old farter.
Your best days are over, you’re ready to go.
You’re wrinkles are showing, your beer belly’s growing.
Your semen’s stopped flowing, you’re all clapped out now.
We marvelled to witness, your standard of fitness.
You suffered no ailments, not even a cough.
But from self-abuse, and living so loose,
Your extremities withered, & your balls have dropped off.
You came full of purpose, but now you are surplus.
You were full of ideas, you were at the forefront.
Now your skills are outdated, your job’s automated.
You’re now on the scrap heap, so it’s off to the desert you must go.
A few of us who had not yet had enough of Sami moved to the Bull & Vine for more beverages and some played pool. Now Slamming Sami is known for long drives and bombing folk on other fairways but on Sunday evening he achieved a rare feat on the pool table by sinking the black off the break.
Keep on Slamming Sami, we all hope to see you soon for a round on a Saturday or a Sunday or even both.
Next Sunday Gading Raya
The newly renovated GR is now even more attractive than in the past. A course that most golfers chase personal low scores and typically outside the mid afternoon rainbelt. It really is an enjoyable place to play golf. So sign up and come and be part of the fun on MyGolf2U
